Jon Bernthal is a man who takes everything in from the person whos speaking to him thinks about it then responds, His level of respect is among the best ive ever seen as a podcast host he dosent spout bullshit & talk about random shit that takes away from the guest whos speaking he listens cause he wants to learn not gain attention, thats why he posts these episodes.

Two of the best me on our Dept. I learned so much from both of them. They’ve mentored kids on the street and within LAPD.

i understand the whole concept of patreon and being on there with all the interviews. I just wish there were more full interviews on here because i love how Jon can get people to really open up about their life experiences. great stuff!

I was one of Deamer’s training officers at 77th Division in 1990. I did not know much about his career after training him. It appears he had a positive connection with the communities he served.

Great clip Jon! I love how you let your guests talk and you interject at the appropriate time. I’ve worked with Jeff and heard how solid Robert is.

Dreamer and Norat!!!!! I worked with these legends on a tv show called Southland Back in 2010-2012. we had these awesome guys on set with us a lot. Very cool.

Man.. Officer Norat is a legend in the Boyle Heights community, Hollenbeck station. I was part of a community program in my teen years and Officer Norat was there. Really nice man and I remembered me and my friend will tell him about all the movies and shows we've seen him on and he was cool and humbled talking about it and the actors he got to work with like Tom Cruise. I'm glad to see he's doing well! 😀

These men are so the REAL example of heroes. God bless them!

Became a fan of yours from Walking Dead. Watched pretty much everything you’ve been in. You’re a good actor and interviewer. Keep up the work.

Thank you Jon for all of these interviews. this one in particular hit home for me because I had a cop that talked some sense into me after I left the Corps and was starting to make some bad decisions. He could have compounded my issues with considerable legal trouble when he found me at my lowest point but he chose to try and talk some sense into me. I listened and took his advice. I got help through the VA with counseling, took a job pushing carts at a hardware store even though I thought it was below me but since I gave it everything I had, I got noticed and was promoted very quickly. I even capitalized on my GI bill and graduated college and married the woman of my dreams a year after that crappy night. that was all twelve years ago. the cop and I stayed in contact and told me that I am the only person he ever knew of in his 25 years of law enforcement that had a good outcome. Some LEO's spend their entire career wondering if they ever really made a difference and that it is tragedy because I am sure if they were sincere and positive, they have changed someone's world at least once for the better. I can also understand how they might be jaded from seeing all of the awful outcomes and repeat offenders they see everyday as I worked in a hospital for many years and got a glimpse of that as well. Thanks again and Please keep these conversation's coming!

I have no clue how I came across this video, but so glad I did! I went to basic training with Jeff’s son back in 2012. His son and I became pretty tight and of course I met his parents at our graduation. Jeff seemed like a gentle giant then, and still does now!

I had the pleasure to meet officer norat in hollenbeck he changed my life he is one of my life mentors now.

In a saturated market, this is fast becoming one of the best (if not THE best)podcast around.

What kept me away from gangs back in the early 80's was the Explorer program in Rampart Div., After graduating from high school I joined the Marine Corps for 8 years and was honorably discharged. Unfortunately I wasn't able to join LAPD ,but later on i was a Public Safety officer with General Services Police Dept. before it got taken over by LAPD.I was able to make a lateral transfer to the Dept. of Water & Power as a Public Safety officer. Thanks to these officers that care about the youth .Semper FI.

Growing up in south la I want to be like my father, seeing struggle in your every day life changes you at a young age. Makes you grow up quick, you see and experience things which a lot of people don’t in a life time. But To all my LA folks, Y’all be safe out there.. shits crazy right now

The new years incident the officer referred too is still going on strong every new year's in Chicago. Ours last a good 15 minutes after midnight. Amazing podcast

I grew up in San Fernando valley CA, Sun Valley to be exact, all trough out the 90’s. Very poor neighborhood. I remember cops were trying to reach out to the community. They would have us approach their car and would give us topps baseball cards, candy, badge stickers, DARE stickers and pencils. They would even play ball with us for a few minutes. THOSE were good cops. Even our DARE officer was very involved in our community. I remember him being very funny. I hope they’re doing good and are safe.

I was in 5th grade when the north Hollywood bank shoot out happened in Van Nuys. My school was a few blocks from there. We had the school on lock down. Seemed like something was always going down.

Lotta rumors about Arthur Jr real name Arturo, we used to call him On The Rocks because Arthur 2 On The Rocks was a smash hit movie we loved in 88. I was a cop in the 90’s and 2000’s. There was a big push for community-oriented policing and proper tactics (not so much today - much more focus on sexual harassment and respecting pronouns). I think we served the communities better back then. I loved interacting with the people I served and it was fulfilling to help - unfortunately one bad incident with an idiot cop is what makes the news and can undo a lot of good will.

Great guests for a great podcast. More of this please.

Was that the whole interview? I like hearing old stories from retired LAPD officers. All the shit they go through and 6 months is not enough training. That guy is right you need at least 5 years under your belt to be a proper officer.

It all starts somewhere though. It's not a job you can ever fully train for. You have to do it and hone your instincts on the job. The academy is a foundation, the street is where the real training happens.

I hope one day I can get on a podcast like this, and tell my story of overcoming opioid addiction. The losses I've endured, the important things that I risked losing, if I didn't get help, and quit. A lot of people see addiction, and are disgusted, or just want to look away. Most people don't understand just how hard it is to live with, and how difficult it is to overcome.

This is awesome,that my brother Jeff came to visit me with my favorite lady in the world,aside from mom,my dear sister Rosie Norat who finally got around to crossing the border into TJ where I've been in deportation status all alone going on 12 long years! When they showed me a taste of the podcast .I was immediately blown away! I'm on this of the fence due to some of the stuff they are discussing,street gangs,drugs,and supid ever more! For there's no rock&roll, far from it,all you get on that life style is a whole bunch of blues! To be honest,if it wasn't for the real love that Jeff has for me,along with my dear sister,I would be living on a gutter,that's a true fact! I'd never thought I'll come to love a police officer,but Jeff is more than an ex-cop,he's my hero! My sister promised me that she would get an autograph from Bernthal,I can't wait cause I'm Jon's number one fan on this side of the border! I'm currently trying to write my life story,hey who knows,maybe Jon will have me as a guest in the future,that would be awesome!

Mr. Bernthal, I worked with both of these guys. I have so many great memories of our time together. Please if you can have Capt Dial on your podcast. In my 30 years on the job there are very few true leaders I had the opportunity to work for. In my top three, two of them are women and she was one of them!

I agree 100%. Connie Dial is an amazing women and broke some much ground for women in law enforcement. Plus her uncover work infiltrating radical groups in the 70’s and then her authoring fiction books in retirement. Such a unique woman.

Gary Jubelin is a former homicide detective here in Australia. He’s worked on some of the largest cases here in the last 30 years. He’s been portrayed in a television series. He’s also a author. He would be a great guest on the podcast!

Yeah watch a lot of stuff man and you're doing a pretty good job this is a good stuff. Let these guys talk and get deep. My grandpa was a cop for a long time in Seattle and it was a great way to grow up and it was good to see especially seeing what's going on now I got a different perspective and I really appreciate it even though he's not around no more it was really good thing. Everybody just needs to remember when your mom or your sister or brother or somebody's in trouble dad even you know who they call. Warts and all they're coming and they want to help, they want to get the bad guy. We do live in confusing world these days, I still think most of these guys their intent is true and nobody's going to confuse that.

Would love to see an episode on Bernthals visits to the islands and his Weinsten interactions.

Hey… i graduated in 1988 from Sylmar High in the SFV. I remember the CRASH units! Gang sweep thursdays, they would hand out citations and they would call you out by name and ride your ass about what youre doing out of school etc.

Especially look up drug arrests specifically weed arrest and see what group of people make of the majority of those arrests. Foh with these racist misleading pos cops. Lapd is the absolute worst
