Lapping zone: Lapping should be done in areas where the tension is zero or least. For example, the ideal lapping zone for bottom bars is support to one-fourth span.
Lapping distance: The bottom bars should overlap at column junctions up to a distance of L/4 from each end.
Lapping levels: Each bar should overlap at alternative levels within the lapping zones.
Lapping percentage: Not more than 50% of the bottom bars in a beam are overlapped in the same zone plus columns of any clear span.
Lapping at the span: All beam bottom rebars should not be lapped at the span.
Lapping near the ends: Lapping should be done near the ends of the beam.
