I don’t want to get a small ~250cc bike for ~$5k and out grow it in six months and have to go shell out another ~$9k for a 450 a year later, but seeing this it looks like a could get the smaller bike and just tear it up for a long time without needing to upgrade to a 450 right away

I first raced MX back in the day on a ‘90 XR250 against 250 2 strokes. Riding a heavier, less powerful, and more poorly suspended bike taught me how to be smooth and maintain momentum. It was fun to see the look on people’s faces when I beat them while riding a “girls bike”, or when they found out that it was 250 and not a 600! Power is a crutch that will mask proper technique when you are learning.

Great video. Would however like to see the same with the KLX230R compared to a 250F. The point that you made about starting out on a cheaper and easier to ride trail bike was excellent. I think the better progression would be KLX230 to 250F to 450F for most riders. On a beginner friendly practice track the difference might only be 1/2 second when compared to a 250F.

I wasnt that much slower actually. Only a couple seconds which is pretty awesome considering the HP and handling difference. I was passing some serious novices that were on 250Fs and 450s lmao. It just takes time for that comfort. I came from being a pretty fast quad guy to brand new on bikes. It’s taken me 2 years to get to the comfort I was used to on the quad. The biggest thing to remember is that the bikes can play around more side to side, and still be okay. On the quads when it starts swapping usually your day is over. But the bike can get away with a lot more and it takes a lot get used to letting it move. One big thing that helped me is riding on the balls of my feet and gripping with my knees

I been riding since i was 14 and if ur not super coordinated dont by a pro 250f or a 450f if u never rode ever...yeah a year sounds fair..learn to ride on 80cc KX Used CRF 80 150cc is good learn to work all the controls on an 80cc or 150 f its all the same u have to be a step ahead of the bike an the 80 is just as fast an moves the same way once u get everything automatic gas clutch foot brakes gas an front brake timing an feel the down on a mini 80 or 150f...u will now realized the extra size an power difference an be like whooooaa u were right. Again....u know my dad had a phrase growing up...am i talking for my health or just talking to hear my self talk..both...ok thats to phrases...really get a starter bike is real important try to get one with a clutch at least so u learn the gas clutch timing an brake...i have seen too many video yee haaw..people take gas an clutch an i see they dont even know where the brakes are there feet are off the pegs...it make sick when someone goes into a fence or a tree...regular folks will blame the motorcycle truth is we humans started out on bicycles they became motorcycles then cars came around after motorcycles.....get a small shifty little pit bike even..get the least amount of bike slowest thing u can fit on...that green bike sure is purdy...an long travel...u still should get an 80 a honda 150CRF is right in the medium category an when u get it figured out its a sick fast real race bike just taller kids sprouting...so an adult could fit an ride it...if u got no talent an cant listen an learn buy a ZR 50cc or an XR 80 is too much for u 5 gears 4 ??

I'm also 5 foot and 11 your would probably want a 125 Suzuki but if u can't lift it up, I can barely lift me drz up, but if u can't lift it then get a kx60. Its a smaller bike and also a race bike but it is fast

The "track" was basically a flat field. None of the superior aspects of the race bike came in to play. Of course, the end results would be close as there was no reason for any difference.

Another point, which i think you made, is that you don't need to buy more than you need. If you are just trail riding, you don't need to buy a full blown racer. Buy what fits your real needs, not necessarily what you fantasize about. Just get what you really need and ride.
