Lange fietstocht door Rijnenburg via de Hollandsche IJssel naar het centrum van IJsselstein. 35 minuten pure slow tv!
Vanuit Utrecht fietste ik op zaterdag 25 juni langs de westrand van Nieuwegein (parallel aan de A2) richting polder Rijnenburg. Ik begin met filmen net na de onderdoorgang van de A2 op de Nedereindseweg. Daar fiets ik het veelbesproken poldergebied Rijnenburg in. Nu staan de meeste woningen in dit gebied nog langs de Nedereindseweg, maar in de toekomst ziet dit gebied er waarschijnlijk heel anders uit, wanneer de plannen voor een energielandschap en een nieuwe woonwijk van Utrecht worden gerealiseerd.
Aan het eind van de Nedereindseweg sla ik linksaf en fiets ik een stuk langs de provinciale weg, de N228. Vrij vlot sla ik weer linksaf, naar de Noord IJsseldijk. Bij camperplaats Marnemoende gaat het via een fiets- en wandelbrug over de Hollandsche IJssel en vervolg ik de route over de Zuid IJsseldijk richting IJsselstein, waar ik na wat omwegen in het centrum van het stadje uitkom.
Hoewel het heerlijk fietsen is door de polder deel je op de Nedereindseweg de weg met al het andere verkeer, wat daar soms wel erg hard rijdt. Langs de provinciale weg ligt, uiteraard, een apart fietspad. Maar echt ontspannen fietsen wordt het eigenlijk pas op de Zuid IJsseldijk. IJsselstein is vervolgens een hele leuke bestemming om even bij te komen, de molen te bezoeken of te winkelen in de auto- en fietsvrije winkelstraat in het centrum.

On Saturday 25 June I cycled from Utrecht along the western edge of Nieuwegein (parallel to the A2-highway) towards the Rijnenburg polder. I start filming just after the underpass of the A2 on the Nedereindseweg. There I cycle into the much-discussed Rijnenburg polder area. Most of the homes in this area are currently located along the Nedereindseweg, but this area will probably look very different in the future when the plans for an energy landscape and a new residential area in Utrecht are realised.
At the end of the Nedereindseweg I turn left and cycle a bit along the provincial road, the N228. Pretty quickly I turn left again, to the Noord IJsseldijk. At the motorhome parking Marnemoende it goes via a bicycle and walking bridge over the Hollandsche IJssel and I continue the route over the Zuid IJsseldijk towards IJsselstein, where after some detours I arrive in the center of the town.
Although it is wonderful to cycle through the polder, on the Nedereindseweg you share the road with all other traffic, which sometimes drives very fast there. There is, of course, a separate bicycle path along the provincial road. But the most relaxed cycling starts on the Zuid IJsseldijk. IJsselstein is then a very nice destination to relax, visit the mill or shop in the car and bicycle-free shopping street in the center.
