I sure wish they had amps like this back around the late 70’s when I had first picked up guitar at these affordable prices. New players today really have so much choices at reasonable prices, very cool.

Actually just a couple years later than that there were somewhat decent sounding cheaper transistor amps. KMD which is long forgotten now made pretty nice sounding mos/fet amps that had a bit of a tube Marshall attitude to them. Not quite as low cost as the stuff these days but really low priced compared to a tube Marshall back then.

I have always thought that Laney amps are hugely under rated. I've used them for 30 years. The LC50 (Tube amp) has a brilliant clean channel that seems to work with single coils, humbuckers and P90s equally well and it is a killer full, balanced sound. The drive channel is an absolute monster too. Not quite metal on full drive but the rock and blues sounds available are as good as anything else I hear. More recently I am using the Laney Lionheart LT5 (5w tube). My SG with P90s through that has me on my knees.

I play an old Laney Linebacker combo daily because it sounds incredible with pedals and its unique use of CMOS gain stages like a Sunn Beta. It goes from clean to stoner/doom. Dave from Laney knows/knew how to design a killer SS amp!

Phil, you know what would be a great addition to the demo? After you've played through the amp, put an overdrive in front (Tube Screamer and/or Blues Driver) and then a distortion (RAT) and fuzz (Fuzz Face or Big Muff) to show how an amp takes pedals. Just a quick riff per pedal.

I’ve had the Lead for a couple of weeks now. Took a bit of getting used to like any amount of but can finally dial in what I want for the most part. Really happy with the gain channel and boost. Not crazy about the clean channel, seems you have to turn the bass and mids all the way down to get it out of the mud.

I definitely want one very much. Yet Australia as I’d really like a 1 12 can and speaker exact same your using Phil. As that first version for my old school rock and blues. But also some of the cleric 80’s I loved those 80’s years. I’m afraid t look price on my veterans pension. Companies making it so hard the new Rory Galager relic exact. Is not possible and at 52 few months. I wanted one custom shop relic Strat love my Gibson’s but being real a Strat for a 50 yr old veteran that’s fine a lot and suffers a lot for my service. I now after today see I can’t even go a really nice guitar. I didn’t ask for fancy sport car. Or stuff, I one my fussy ever thing snark rechargeable then hear that you guys couldn’t send and cost wise. So I just took that as normal for myself that I can say I win something just not able to get. So I just stood back and as you and your wife give slot to us all and being a broken soldier down under that got a card from VA on my 59th that’s it. Kids no family forgot and x as if she cared. Sad times when I look ahead at this rate. Still be jamming alone watching paint peel of walls some rental. I miss the days nights till sun up jamming with everyone from Harmonicas acoustics good friends and times. Was great little demo and that sound at start no pedals into the bottom amp version. Had to be it but the same cab speaker you use Phil. As that be great in lounge room for me as no visitors or drop ins but incase I’d play. As has to be one acoustic and an electric in lounge room. And that amp just a couple of my not on board pedals. It would sweet for my doing some old music courses by Marty on Jimi Eric and bb. Keep myself from getting sloppy tech as bought them and he is good guy good teacher. Practice each day then starting to add songs wanted to play every week or two. Cheers stay strong and keep on strumming. 🫡🪖🇦🇺🦮

On my newer Vox C keys it has a L and R XLR out that can go to your audio interface. BuT it warns not to supply 48v phantom power from the interface back into the keys as it may toast the keys. I purchased a 2 XLR to TRS for this as the TRS into the interface makes the phantom power not available on the 1/4" TRS. I haven't really tried this but wondered if the same idea could work with non powered mics by using the XLR to TRS cable there as well. Now I see the XLR DI out on this amp that goes to the audio interface as well? If so would supplying 48v from the interface damage this amp DI circuit and would using an XLR to TRS into the interface be defensive there as well?

Hi Phil, hey, I was wondering if you'll actually see this comment/question and if so, would you even have the time to answer it? My question is; what's your all time favorite guitar and amp? I don't mean fav line of guitars and amps, I'm talking about your single most favorite guitar and amp? It can be one you used to own and got rid of and kick yourself in the butt for getting rid of, like I've done, or one you've played, but it wasn't yours or maybe wasn't for sale. Just your all time favorite guitar and amp? Maybe you could do a video on them? If you actually do still have it, maybe you could do the video on them, or one of them? Thanks

What I meant about mojo of the amp is the harmonic warmth of a tube amp. It is all subjective, to me solid state/digital amps have no character, they sound sterile. Where I choose not to like them and I’ve tried, you can choose to like them. I choose not to get in a pissing contest and have the right to like or dislike anything in life, just as you do.

Why get a solid-state amp, when you can get a much more versatile (and arguably better-sounding) modelling amp for the same (or even lower) price? Fender Mustang (the old ones), Vox VT, Boss Katana, Line 6 Catalyst etc. are all objectively better choices than those Laneys.

  • @dannybeausejour7205

Some people dont like modeling amps, I'm one of them. I hate messing with software and controls that have multifunctions being stuck with the signal path they provide I feel that simpler to me is better. Also when or if a modeling amp fails good luck fixing it. I personally own both modeling and analog products, laney lc50 and a marshal jcm 2000 dsl100 I definately prefer those over any modeling amps they are less versatile and not as easy to mic up at gigs though
