The Laney Ironheart Loud Pedal is a powerful 60-watt, two-channel amplifier in a compact pedal format, designed with Martin Miller and built in the UK. In this video, I'll demo it through a Laney cab loaded with Vintage V30s, test the DI output, and run various pedals and guitars through it. Channel one and channel two each have volume and gain controls, sharing an EQ section and tone knob, plus footswitchable reverb and boost.
We’ll explore clean tones, gain settings, and the pedal’s versatility, including MIDI, XLR DI out with Laney IRs, aux in, headphone out, and USB-C for audio interface use. Whether you're using it standalone or with additional pedals, this little beast delivers impressive sound quality and dynamic range.
Join me as I put the Laney Ironheart Loud Pedal to the test, from pristine cleans to high-gain madness. Don't miss my final verdict on whether this pedal is worth your investment.

Seems very similar to the Friedman IR, in a few ways, including price. The first version of these Laney’s, are down to $300 new, snd I’ve seen cheaper prices. Used, I’ve seen them for less than $200. It still has two channels, but no boost, and I’m sure less features in general. It’s smaller too. For $500, I’m not getting this new one. I’d rather put it towards a Victory pedalboard amp, that’s all analog, with a pre amp tube, and a DI out. The best modeled tone I’ve heard, is when an amp has a decent cab sim out, and it can be run straight to FOH, because it uses the analog pre and power amps, instead of an IR. The Egnater Rebel, Blackstar HT Club, Peavey has them on some EVH heads and some 30watt amps they make. I’ve been enjoying the Revv D25, with its balanced out, and 6 virtual cabs. I can get the same tone I use, with my pedalboard, and the difference I hear from a monitor, or house speakers, is negligible, and I have the amp behind me, so I still hear the tone that’s inspiring me.

I wonder what the take up will be? Ipadders with an amp into an inplace speaker system? Public address systems? To be fair there have been small amps like this for decades but ... for whatever reasons ... it is good to see you gave it a few hours to see how semiconductors handled running hot for a while. And a last comment: change from amp that contains everything to an amp capable of supporting everything (and it fits in your laptop bag) Now if only live music were supported enough to make a great market for these things 🙂

My JMP-1 and my Kaluna II nail the tone much better even standalone and they also have no trashy sounding Class D power amp, which anyway is dispensable for me. My stepless power scalable all tube power amp does a much better job, if I need it. Heavily overpriced too for a tubeless preamp and a budget Class D power amp. EUr 289,- would be my limit for such a tubeless fake-tone-processor, but certainly not EUR 449,-. In this price range I already get some good sounding two-channel all tube amps.

  • @TheGuitarGeek

I kind of understand about the price but for something made in the UK, that’s what it costs! Regarding the sound and feel, there are harmonics a plenty and it’s loud beyond necessary. An amp does not need a tube to sound good. Open your mind a little and you’ll be surprised what is out there

@@TheGuitarGeek Already mentioned it: Marshall JMP-1 preamp with RFT NOS tubes, power scalable (mostly) KT77 power amp (1W-40W Pentode, 0.5W -15W Triode), which also works with 6V6, 6L6GC, 5881 or EL34 or even 6L6GC and 5881 or EL34 and KT77 combinations (In fact this is a DV Mark Little 40 L34, which I "abuse" as power amp, as it also offers switchable hot and cold biasing, a really good, not too dull sounding Triode mode additionally, Pentode mode anyway plus the for me essential long tail pair tube phase inverter. Looks maybe strange in combination, but sounds great and this is the only thing, that interests me. The rest at the moment: Slightly modded Killer Ant, Modded sort of LoW Tiny Terror (TubeTown Wild 13), Tubemeister 18. Tube pedals: Kaluna I and Kaluna II as pedals in front of the amps, but they work fine, if not even better also standalone as complete amp replacements, even better stacked with customized cab IR's. Make even the JMP-1 obsolete, I can adjust almost everything between vintage Clean and even Metal high-gain with them alone, nice (hot-rod) Plexi-Tones anyway. So alone these two pedal cover almost everything in top-notch quality for me, plus, they offer real tube tones. Mesa V-Twin clone (Meteoro Doctor Drive), which I do not like so much, as I am no Fender/Mesa Boogie sound fan, but for certain sounds it's ok. Already sold again: BK Butler Tube Driver, Chandler Tube Driver rack preamp, Cream Machine, Tubeman I and II, Tubeman rack preamp, some Valvecasters, Vox Straight 6, Flat 4, V8, Korg Nu:Tube OD-S (horrible in my opinion) and a lot of others. Fryette Power load IR for the amps, so I can use them with cab IR's, if I use a cabinet, which hardly happens meanwhile, it is a, to bassreflex converted deep semi-dampened 112 with a Celestion Sidewinder S12-150 PE. (Luckily I have no 1959 anymore, as it really looked strange on this cabinet, but also sounded awesome through it.) Additional tubeless gear: SD-1 with rare Hidalgo mod (less gain, but more transparent sound, better frequency balancing plus 3 voicings, soundwise some sort of Klon Centaur - SD-1 hybrid, but the typical SD-1 character is not lost, so this is the by far best SD-1, I ever had. Much better than the Waza, which was an instant return.) Then there is still my decades old Award Session JD-10 2.3, which still does a great job, especially with good IR's behind. (Still blows away most new pedalboard amps soundwise, if you only look for some pedalboard compatible, good sounding gear in my opinion, but the Kalunas even are much better!) I already owned the cheaper IRF Loudpedal and it did not convince me at all plus a lot of other Ironhear gear, always with the same results, these dull, muddy bass, the strange, for me much too dark sound shaping, the poor dynamic reaction and even worse harmonics reproduction is nothing for me. But I think, I anyway have access to all the tones, I like... Even better, my meanwhile over 2.300 ToneX models of my gear allow me to use the same tones digitally too, but I hardly ever use them by myself, as the real gear almost always still sounds much better in direct comparison. The new Loudpedals also are too expensive in my opinion. Maybe I bought the Lionheart, if it sold under EUR 300,-, at least it is only a tubeless preamp with a not in any way sound improving Class D power amp, which I do not need, as I anyway mostly only use line-level signals with cab IR's behind meanwhile. For me Laney amps do not offer a pure British tone, if you take Marshall, Vox or Orange as reference, they have their own tone, but it obviosuly is not mine. At the moment pedalboard amps are overhyped for me, more marketing gimmicks than sound improvements, quite the opposite, in some years most of their fans will have returned to real tube amps again, simply because of the better sound. I am 60 years old and have seen so many guitar gear hypes coming and going during the decades and only little of them have remained or revolutioned guitar gear seriously. I still use my 1970's Jen white fasel wah (authentic Vox wah circuit), as it simply even today sounds better than any new wah, I ever have tried. But ok, nobody has to share my points of view.
