Norman Silber was my Father - and I was the very lucky 14 year old kid sitting behind him during his short chat with Ray. This is the first time I've every seen this as we didn't have a VCR back then - thank you for posting it John.

Hello from the Class of '88. I remember your father being principal for my first two years. I recall him getting on the PA and saying "May I have your attention please...announcements for the day." Mrs. Carson took over as principal in my Junior year in 1986.

I was just thinking about this episode and came back to it this morning. I attended Lane Tech from 1984-1988, and it fascinates me so much that Ray Rayner featured the school. I was in the Marching Band, and it's so cool to see all the familiar squads, as the Band would often perform with the Majorettes and Boosters at football games and in parades.

The WGN studio was, and still is, located at 2501 Bradley Place. It is right across the street from Lane Tech, so it was convenient for everyone to appear, as they could go directly to school when they were done. It looks like the kids were there after 8:00 when first period started, as Ray gives the time periodically, so they probably got permits to be excused from first period that day. I was in Marching Band, and we used to have to keep getting permits to get excused from class for performances we had to attend.

15:00 This fascinates me that music guy performed the Lane Tech fight song "Go Lane Go" for the squads to dance to. I played trombone in the Marching Band when I attended Lane and that was something we performed.

@@armineedavis6036 Who was the bandleader at the time? I attended Lane from 1984-1988 and was in Marching Band all four years, and it was Mr. Mitofsky. However, I don't think he was bandleader for many years before that. Because he was so new, he made the mistake of accepting the Chicago Bears Superbowl parade in 1986 and we got sandwiched in the crowd.

What a blast from the past! Remember that year well. Went to most if not all of the games. Was friends with Gary Kuykendal at 21:21. What a great team. Great bunch of classmates. Thanks.

Hello from Lane Tech Class of '88! Mr. Silber was principal for my first two years at Lane before Mrs. Carson took over. I was in the Marching Band all four years, and I performed at football games with the Majorettes and Boosters on the field. I loved watching Ray Rayner when I was a kid. I'll never forget how he would show the characters on the wall whenever he would put on a cartoon, as he does with a Yogi Bear cartoon in this episode. He used to do the same thing with Buggs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Of course, the date, weather, and sports scores on the chalkboard was so familiar! He used to go on the phone with Harry Volkman every morning to get the weather and write it down.

The band area and audience gallery look like the Bozo Show because Ray Rayner was performed in the same studio as the Bozo Show. I know this because I attended a Bozo telecast there in 1976. Donahue aired in the next studio down the hall at 11:00, and the audience filed in to the studio for Bozo at about 11:30 to be ready to start at 12:00.

Yeah, Ray Rayner would show cartoons throughout his show. I used to think it was goofy that he would show one of the characters painted on the wall prior to showing the cartoon with whatever character he would show. He's showing the little Buggs Bunny on the wall. Gee, I wonder what's gonna happen next. He's probably going to show a Buggs Bunny cartoon.
