Landscape Photography w/the New 102MP Fuji GFX100s

In this week’s episode, I take you along on a recent landscape photography excursion to test out my new camera, the Fujifilm GFX100s, 102mp medium format camera! Not only is this the most expensive camera I've ever used, but it's also the first medium format camera I've ever used as well and to say that I was impressed would be an understatement. As soon as this camera was announced last month I was immediately interested in it as it has the same sensor as the Fujifilm GFX100, but without the insanely high price tag and the GFX100s comes in a substantially smaller form factor as well.
In this video, I photograph three beautiful waterfalls in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina with the new Fujifilm GFX100s and share my thoughts and initial experience using this incredible medium format camera. The overall image quality and resolution coming out of this camera really is impressive especially considering it's not much bigger than the majority of full frame cameras on the market today. I really enjoyed my initial outing with this camera and came away with three images that I'm pretty happy with. I hope you enjoy this week's episode and if you have any questions regarding the Fuji GFX100s, just let me know. Thanks for watching! - Mark D.

Finally figured it out! The over-saturated look of the photos was caused by the way Premier Pro rendered the files on export..lesson learned. Thanks so much for watching everyone!

To me the last one at 16:00 was the best, looks like we are in a fairy tale :-)
Really love all of the shots of the camera itself, clicking buttons on the camera itself, the BTS kind of shots where you can really understand the interaction process. When you rotated that polarizing filter while filming the back of the camera... I don't think I've ever understood or appreciated the effect of polarization so quickly and so profoundly. Stellar video work.
The last image was the really impressive. I like the way in which you got enough blur to create a sense of movement whilst retaining a sense of the power of the water.
In these times of lockdown (I live in Italy), it is so nice to share these forays into nature. The video with sound is really enjoyable to watch, apart from watching you take the pictures, so thanks for being generous. Beautul spot.
Beautiful waterfall images Mark. Glad to see you out and about with your camera, love these types of videos. Keep up the good work! 🙂
These exploration/adventure videos are my favourite, always so inspiring to get out and shoot, thank you.
I enjoy the closeup and the intimacy of the second image but you just can’t beat a waterfall/gorge scene. Especially with the lines in the rocks. Great vlog Mark

Hey Mark, Great video! I love the area around your first set of falls, so much to choose for shooting! Going to make plans to get to the other one this spring. Keep up the great work!
Nice to see you out and shooting Mark! More of this please.
Nice to see you out and about for a vlog rather than office bound. Much prefer this type of content, irrespective of whether you get great images or not .....
Loved that third image the most Mark...the colours are really poping up in your new gear.. great vlog as always 😊

Absolutely gorgeous, beautifully captured images. Conversation complete, I’m getting that camera this summer. 👍🏾 Thank you for this. Phelix
Another great video! I am familiar with both locations. Probably liked the last one best but all were very good.
Mark you do such an amazing job 😁. I'm so glad to be able to call those mountains my home.
great video. i agree with your choise, thanks for sharing your first impressions about the fuji gfx100s.
I liked all the photos, but especially the last one. The rocks create leading lines which draw you right in!
Love the composition you got in photo 3. I took a photo last year at the same location, but mine was further back to get more of the rocks. Also, the fall wasn't flowing as much. That area is so good.
Thank you sir. I really love the Fuji gfx100s. It's like looking at surrealistic photos. They are so crisp, sharp and pristine. Have fun with it for the time you have it and.....get one.
I enjoyed the adventure aspect of the video, its like I was there. Great composition on that last picture, that's my favorite.
really love the 1st image and 3rd - the rocks around just look very nice and want to say "explore" the nature in the image
Incredible work mark! The color, light and composition of the last image has your signature all of it.

All three images were great. The detail you got with the medium format + 102mp is incredible. The third waterfall was my favorite because of the rocks. Hope you will go back with a wide angle with the same camera. Thank you!
I continue to be astonished watching you compose and work your images. Even without the GFX your photos would be outstanding. I love all 3 of them, but I think my favorite was the first one you took. Those greens are almost other-worldly. I like saturated images - they remind me of old CCD sensors.
Thanks for showing features of the GFX100S, I can appreciate the functions that I have not seen on other cameras to date. Looking forward to Outsiders in Utah next month!

Thank You for shooting in 4k. Its always so much better.. from the consumers perspective anyway.. Like when you dialed in and showed the polarizer .. I could actually see it. So thanks !!!
Really enjoyable as always, awesome camera/Lens combination.

Awesome area and you captured it all perfectly Mark. You just love throwing temptation at me don't you? 🤪 You swayed me with getting the XT3 and now the quality of photos the GFX100S produces I'm sure will make it THE one for my bucketlist cameras to get next 👌🏻 Great to see you out and about again mate 👍

Thanks Mark, I enjoyed the walk/drive-along. And that GFX100s is a monster! You asked a tough question - but I have to say my favorite was the second composition - the"intimate, quiet scene" - with the intersecting logs on the left. I guess though, if you could've got closer to the waterfall (the 3rd comp) that could've turned out the best!
Was a good video Mark. I think I like the first photo. Makes me want to go the falls soon and take more photos.

Wonderful images of those waterfalls....new gear videos where the gear fades into the background are the best 👍 I did find the reds a bit distracting in the images, though. I see some others were noticing the greens. I think the wood just looked to red for me, but maybe that really is what's it's like!
Photo magic every time!
Great video as ever Mark, thanks .. I must confess that the camera you're using is rather out of my league, but interesting compositional ideas and techniques. Great location too.

well done as usual. Thought long and hard about that camera.
Great out and about video and some very nice captures with that amazing New Fuji. The results are ALL FANTASTIC.. ALL are exceptional. Your walk and talk tutorial, out in those beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, put me in mind of the styles of Mads Peter Iverson and Henry Turner both of whom do excellent landscape KZread tutorials in their beautiful, alluring homelands. I truly enjoy this type of very tutorials to assist me in my search to recognize and capture nature in its natural state
This makes me think again about full frame. This camera is awesome.
I love the last picture! Absolutely gorgeous! I found it funny when you said that waterfall pool was too deep for the camera. In my case that 5ft deep waterfall pool would be right up to my nose, making it pretty much impossible to take the photo 😂
I personally like the 3rd image the best. I giggled to myself when I watched you tighten the camera down when you were in the water. You really wanted to make sure it was securely attached! 😆 Thanks for the review. The camera takes beautiful images.

Absolutely love NC for landscape photography, the spring and fall are amazing the bugs not so much, but do miss it. Beautiful photos, enjoyed this video. As someone who started in graphics long before going into photography Ive never understood why the gravitation from one camera to another because I could tweak post production, would love to see a video about the difference between a good camera vs. compensation in editing to make up for a more quality camera. Does it really matter?
Time to invest in some waders! I have a tip to share. It's Trillium Season in the Smokies right now. Visited Roaring Gap Nature Trail in Gatlinburg today and was wowed by masses of whites and pinks which also had a light sprinkling of yellows. Lovely tiny purple irises as well. Enjoy!!!!
Gotta be that last one. So incredibly vibrant and textured. The GFX sensor (and glass) looks pretty special. Have fun!

Great video,keep it up!📸
I enjoyed the video and it certainly builds desire to own the 100S (I currently own the 50R). My only negative is that the images seem over saturated which given them a slightly artificial look. However, you've got plenty of room in any GFX capture to modify the look extensively.
Great video! Count me in for the 3rd shot. And count me in as a Blue Ridge Parkway and Mountains aficionado as well. And if it works for you financially, get the camera! You’re clearly enjoying it a ton. Thanks again for the great content.

That last shot is stunning...looks like a painting! Damn you Fuji why do you torture me like this?
Great video Mark and location - TKS. I notice that you typical pack very light, seems like often 1 camera & 1-2 lens. Is that yr. preference? Also, really appreciate the details & sharing of your process & thinking on settings / composition (great)AND why!! In yr. videos you often give a broader view of surroundings. Do you have an "assistant" helping w/these views? Really adds to the video. TKS
another great video. I can see the love hearts in your eyes for this camera Mark. 😍😂😂 But before you remortgage your home. Did you hear Fuji are bringing out a new GFX 50s and might be better for file size and your pocket before you pull the trigger. Nice one here Mark. Good to see the new body out in real world applications. I was wondering since you were limited with wide angle, did you not want to try to shoot a pano? It could’ve helped given you that wider perspective you were wanting. I know you had your CPL on so that could’ve deterred you but it might’ve worked out. Also, that lens is sharpest at f16-f22 but I know you were after a certain shutter speed. I just thought I’d toss that out there. Again nice vlog and can’t wait for the follow up!
i love that little top screen. wish more cameras would do that as i cant afford one of these
THANKKKKKKKK YOU !
Love it, Mark - especially your close attention to shutter speed on water movement. Most people go all milky or frozen, but the right balance between detail and movement definitely pays off. The second image is the one. The third would be wonderful in closer with a wider lens, I reckon. So... you bought the GFX...?
