LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY - Never miss an opportunity to shoot!

Never miss an opportunity to shoot when doing Landscape Photography. A second video from Tasmania, this time from Cradle Mountain. The idea here is to take your camera with you all the time to be ready to shoot what you see, by taking your camera with you, even on a walk. Not all walks need to turn into Photoshoots, but the most important part of being a photographer... is taking photographs! Gof or a walk and take your camera with you. It will enjoy the exercise!

Really enjoyed that Ewan. Really great photography content is so thin on the ground on KZread, so when yours pop up on the recommendation list, it’s like Christmas morning. The film met all the usual expectations in storytelling and the images were sublime. As others have said, the waterfall image was gorgeous, but it was the.sprinkling of Ewan magic in the processing that pulled out it’s true potential.

@@EwanDunsmuirImages I'd hazard a guess that you're not fully aware of the positive impact you have on the lives of many. We haven't picked up a camera in over a year, we both work from home and that escape to the Highlands of Scotland for 24hrs to take photos and enjoy the scenery was a pivotal coping mechanism in our lives and it's been missing sorely. This video, coupled with the greyness overhead, has rekindled that want to go pack the camera bags and go. There's something about the pace of your videos, the honesty of them, the considered explanations, and the quality of your final thoughtful light graphs, that really resonates. We do truly hope you're doing well, the past couple of years I've not felt so well, and there's something about the way I'm feeling that I perhaps recognise in you. So good health to you, and hope to see you getting the time to enjoy the wonderful setting you have available some more.

Hi Ewan! I was there the last week end of August! I love that place, i love the images you captured. The truly show off that special place. Re staying on the path…..yep, it is somewhat frustrating but i understand why 👍🏻 I did get a few shot in as well, … but kept to the path😂

Thanks Phil. I saw your posts from there indeed! Yeah, i get but didnt get the rat from the bus driver who in no uncertain terms... put me in my place. However... I have just been to the Ring of Brodgar, which is 5000 years old, a neolithic and historically significant site, and too, is a World Hertitage site, and yet... you are allowed and encouraged to walk around and explore. I dont get the inconsistencies across the WHT sites globally. Put up signs i say! LOL Regards, Ewan

@@EwanDunsmuirImagesI do agree, but there is a distinct passion & protective attitude in Tasmania. I found that some of the bus drivers are very passionate about protecting the park. They do have to contend with some very interesting ( diplomatic term) tourists from OS. I’ve seen what they have done in parts of NZ & Aus. I’m glad you got the shot👍🏻

@@EwanDunsmuirImages good stuff mate. Look forward to your videos. Yeah I haven’t sat still much in the last couple years 🤣 I don’t get a lot of time for video stuff but try to sneak the odd one in. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Stunning photos as always and great video! Thanks for sharing. I had planned on revisiting sycamore gap and attempting a panno the way you just showed as my last trip was bad weather, with wife and dogs limited, but sadly just heard some selfish **** just cut the tree down overnight. Really interested to see your workflow and processing technique as your images always pop, especially the white border around them. Did get a little lost when you started with the aspect ratio maths though. 2:1 i got ( i think) so will give that a go.

Thanks Chris. LOL yes the maths - Ill do a vid on it at some point. Its a bit like the habtual maths with reduction in loght with f stops. I dont agree with the maths that apps give you. The values of light are always half and double. Theres another video too! = )

Hey Marcus, I am getting quite a few emails and requests for that very thing, and whilst i have done it before in this vidoe kzread.info/dash/bejne/gKJ_p8eEfrbOm9o.html i may well do another. I have a couple fo vids to get done before i csn do this but would be a good opportunity to do this once i have a 'confrontational' video published which should be in a week or two. Regards, Ewan

Some beautiful moody images there Ewan, a pleasure as always to see you out and about with your camera. Did you detect any compromise to the image in the f22 shot, It looked good on the film but I personally get nervous (and chicken out) about going above f16.

Hi David - appreciate your feedback and thanks! I think any compromise to teh image would have come from using a moving bridge as my tripos. Generall when i shoot with Medium Format - f22 is still in the sweet spot with MF as the f22 is the f16/ f18 equivalent, on accountvof the light gathering abilities of the big sensor. These lenses actually choke down to f32 and f45 on some and even there - they dont relaly become affected int he same way as they do, say wide open. I feel that longer exposure times work in the same way as pixel shift and improve the image often. Neother do i like things too too crisp and shrp off the bat. I like to have more control over the output than that. Good question though. Dont be afraid of f16+ I have images shot at f32 that have won National Geographic awards, and I sell them printed at 1.6m long. Regards, Ewan

@@EwanDunsmuirImages Thanks Ewan, I am shooting medium format myself so I just need to relax and do what I think is needed. The worst that can happen is that I bugger up an opportunity for a shot but I'll never find out what the camera is properly capable of till I try. I've got much braver on ISO having found how well it handles noise, now it's aperture's time. Don't suppose your thinking of doing a processing vid? I'd love to know how you get that lovely soft, dark and warm feel to your images.

Hey @@davidireland1460 . if its fuji or Hasselblad, they both use Hassleblad (Fujinon) lenses, and are capable of much more that what we assume. I play with f stop over iSO tbh.
