LANDSCAPE photography | I DISCOVERED an AMAZING ICM TECHNIQUE!

Landscape photography is a wonderfully creative art medium. I break out my camera and attempt to photograph in a completely different way to my normal method. Inspired by a wonderful Catalan photographer by the name of Pep Ventosa ( #pepventosa ) I venture out to create some impressionist looking fine art. How did it turn out... well just tune in and see.
I'm exclusively a Medium Format photographer, the Fuji GFX100 being my camera of choice. Wide and ultra-wide angle seascapes are my passion.
I specialise in large format print focusing on creating fine art images best viewed on a wall.

I"m always surprised at what you come up with! You certainly keep us on our toes young Izzy! I have never got my head around PS however much I've tried! LrC I can just about work with!! Intriguing and beautiful art that can be adapted to most things. Really impressed. Thanks Izzy for taking me out of my comfort zone. Take care.

Thank you Jill, looks like you were quick off the mark and the fist to comment 🙏. I’ve not practiced ICM before as it really wasn’t for me. But I was intrigued by this approach and decided to give it a go. The level of expertise required to get good results out of Photoshop is remarkably low. Hope you are well and enjoying the weekend 🙏🙏🙏

Your channel is such a rewarding break from most everything else out there. This is just my third video of yours that I've watched (2nd as a subscriber) and I'm completely hooked. I love what you are doing and I love the fact that you take the time to inform us of settings and techniques so we can learn things. Even your music is superb. I could go on.

Well that was certainly different and unexpected! I've never seen ICMs done like this, I definitely learned something from this video. Thanks for the behind the scenes look at how you did the editing as well, very interesting technique resulting in some beautiful, painterly-like images! ICMers around the world had better step up their game now! Great video mate, really enjoyed that! Hope you are well, have a great week down there!

Mine are a pretty poor comparison so I will just keep trying! This time my morning was doubly good - first you then Ewan! Stay safe, see you next week

Back in the 80's & 90's I used to create similar looking images with Polaroid instant film by working on the prints with a piece of rounded metal to manipulate the emulsions and created similar effects. I was unaware of this technique and I'll be using it as soon as I get a camera (I'm without at present until (hopefully) my insurance claim is settled). Thanks for sharing and the results you achieved are superb.

Cheers buddy 🙏. I walked all the way round the tree in this video. You could just do an arc in front of the tree but try and keep the same distance between you and your subject (that way it’s pretty much the same size in every shot and that can help when it comes to blending). 🙏🙏🙏

I found this quite engrossing, Izzy. Thanks for introducing it and stepping-through the process. The results to me seem a combination of pointillism and impressionism in painting. And I have to admit, very attractive. I checked-out Ventosa's website and he also does "mosaics" that are at the very least, fascinating. (His ICM with the Mona Lisa was wonderful.) Watching your clip, I immediately thought of a couple of locations around Canberra where I could try this technique. One location will, I think, have to wait till next winter for a heavy fog, so I can hone my skills until then. There is nothing to stop me from trying it on a macro subject, either. "Traditional" ICM that features streaks of colour doesn't hold a lot of appeal, but this does. I'm not sure I'll leap right into a 500-shot experiment straight away though! All the best, Izzy.

Cheers M, I love the Mona Lisa shot too. I have a couple of other subjects lined up for later in the year... whether I make a video of it or not we will have to see. A macro subject would be a very interesting project and I'm really interested in seeing what you create. As for 500 images I'm not sure I'm up for that either 😂. Have a lovely week 🙏🙏🙏

@@IzzyAbuleelaPhotography please excuse the delay, but challenge accepted! 😄😉 I tried it on a camelia flower and the stigma. I basically got nowhere, I think because the elements were too simple: lovely yellow on the stigma with bright white, smooth petals. I suspect that the more simple the subject the greater the difficulty in applying the technique. I know I'm not particularly skilled at photography, but I'll try my best. It's blowing a gale up here today, so I can't go outside and try my hand again. I was going to try some of the lavender in the front yard, which is starting to flower. If/when I do get anything, I'll let you know.

I hope I don’t come over to pseudo but the technique leads to Monet painting effect..he of course had terrible eyesight so it could probably be achieved by putting some very thick spectacle lenses over the camera…no I know it can’t . Very interesting to have an insight into the benefits brought by photoshop and the techniques of editing Thanks Iz
