Are the KASE Revolution magnetic filters any good? In this video I review the Pro Kit 82mm, which I use with my Fujifilm GFX100s. When I buy an expensive lens for sharpness, colour and details, I want to put a filter in front of it that doesn't render the lens useless!
Using a cheap filter in front of an expensive lens, turns the expensive lens into a bad one!!
I review the KASE Revolution magnetic filters ,and discuss the key strengths, and any weaknesses that I see...

Informative video on the Kase filters. I agree on the quality of the filters being the highest you can get if your camera lenses are expensive. Not quite sure which size I would need for my Nikon 24-70mm which has a 77mm filter size. Kase says I should then get the 82mm filter set. Do you have experience with the filter size being bigger than the actual defined size of your lens. One last question, who composed the music at the end of the video? it fits nicely to your great photography. Thanks for sharing.

Hello! Great video and very helpful. I currently have a canon RF 24-105 F4 at 77mm diameter, my camera has a full size sensor (Canon EOSR) would you still recommend the 77mm diameter filter set with the “inlay” ring? Or should I go one size up to the 82mm diameter set? Would the inlay ring allow stacking without any vignette? Thank you 😊

  • @Alister_Benn

I have been using kase filters since 2019 and have also tried different brands but Kase is the best And their filter is, as Alister mentions in the video, a filter that can withstand being dropped. i have dropped my polarizing filter a number of times never broken But any filter can break regardless of quality if the accident happens And have never noticed anything strange with these filters, whether it concerns blue casts or other chromatic problems But if you're going to mention something negative, I've noticed that the lens cap comes off easily if, for example, you go under a branch or through a bush, because I've lost a couple but never lost a filter in this way

Alister, I have a Nikon Z6 ii camera and two 77mm lenses. I spoke to Kase and they indicated that to avoid vignetting, 82mm filters would be best rather than 77mm. The downside is the lens hoods would no longer fit. How have you dealt with that, or are your filters the same size as the lenses? My lenses are the Z MC105mm f/2.8 VR S and the Z 24-120mm f/4 S. Cheers

I've been using the Kase magnetic filters for a couple of years. I love these filters, with one exception - the strength of the magnets. My Kase filters attach reasonably well but are easy to knock off the lens. If I use the lens cap and put the camera in my bag, the cap falls off with the slightest touch. It looks as though the new Revolution filters have much stronger magnets. Are you able to comment on how the new filters compare to the original model, particularly in magnet strength? Thanks!

I too have used Kase filters for a while, but after breaking a couple in my set of Wolverine magnetic filters (I have a curious 3-year-old and left them on my desk 🤦‍♂️), I purchased the new Revolution kit. Sadly, the new filters don’t work well with the older filters that haven’t been updated - neither my Black Mist nor CPL+ND filter sit properly so that they are light-tight if I’ve attached a Revolution filter onto the lens first. It has put a bit of a downer on the new kit, frankly, as it’s not truly backwards compatible. And these filters are yet to be replaced with a new version. It does work fine if you mount the Revolution filter/s on top of the older Wolverine filters, but I believe that filters should not be a barrier to creativity. The magnets are a little better on the newer filters, and otherwise I don’t have many complaints. But around the same time, I also picked up a set of Maven Filters from Kickstarter - and I’ve been really impressed with them, too. And, for several reasons, they have been the ones that have got the most use in the last couple of months.

As I still got a wide-angle lense on my wish-list (10-24mm, filter size 77mm), I wanted to got for the 77mm set with two step-up-rings für the other lenses to cover everything. Now I read, that one should buy one size larger than the biggest filter size to avoid vignetting issues. As this means spending more money on a larger kit plus a third step-up ring, I want to be sure that this is really right way to go... Just in case that this matters somehow: my camera is a Nikon D7500. Thanks a lot, also for all your great videos!!! Heidi
