Damn! The Garrett engine makes about as much power as a Lamborghini, and as much noise as a Saturn V.

Is this 695B RVSM approved with the single G600? I know that some commanders are, but I wasn't sure how often operators take above FL290. Which transponders are in that aircraft for ADSB? Thanks!

I’m not sure if this one had the rvsm approval. I definitely have flown some they had the single g600 and was rvsm. I very rarely still went above FL280 anyways. I have taken a 690d to fl310 and it did ok, tas was around 280. Went nonstop from sdl-apf and landed with around 600lbs. Hefty tailwind lol.

Great video. Good flight. The commanders 690’s and 500S are my favorite. What kind of range do you usually fly in your commander?

Depends on what model commander you have but this one has about 6 hours of usable fuel at normal cruise power. So with reserves typically shoot for 5hr legs which is about 1500nm with no wind. Commanders are an amazing machine!

That’s pretty good range. I’m in the market for a commander but I am trying to decide if I want a piston commander 500 S or a turboprop commander 690B,695B or 1000. Right now I am watching videos on commanders and doing some research on it. I like the Garrett engines TPE331 with a TBO of 5000hrs. Base on your experience and knowledge. What can you tell me about your commander and what you like most about it over the other competitors?

Dream Aviation honestly I’d recommend setting your self a budget for the “hourly” costs and then look at the purchase price. If your looking at a cross country machine in all weather, the turbine is definitely going to be the best choice. Most of my time is in a 690D which I absolutely loved. We had the -10 conversions done and I would average 305 knots at around 500 pound an hr at cruise. Now the 695 series are definitely nice to have for the increase takeoff weight but honestly the 900 with -10 will out perform the heavier 695’s. I prefer the 690D or 695’s because I’ve had better luck with the pressurization to the skin rather pressurized to the floor in the earlier models. As far as piston series I really don’t have much time in them.. I loved the 500B with shrike conversion. That’d be a good airplane with a lower operating cost then turbines. Ultimately depends on how much your willing to spend. Can’t go wrong either way! There are a few companies out there that can help you with your decisions. I’d recommend either Byerly Aviation or Eagle Creek Aviation. Good luck and happy flying!

FlyingCobalt thanks for the good advice. I see your landing in the exuma island. Do you fly to Bahamas a lot? I do a lot of trips to San Salvador Bahamas. Most of my flying will be back and forth from FL to Bahamas and sometimes Bermuda. How often do you take your commander in for the spar cap inspection? It’s recommended by the FAA right?

Dream Aviation I don’t fly the commanders to much any more. Mainly just to help people out around the area. I used to go to staniel cay pretty much every week in the 900. The commanders are perfect for island hopping. This particular video is a owner flown airplane and he didnt want it staying overnight on the island so I came with to reposition the plane. Honestly all the commanders I have flown had the spar work done previously so I don’t have much info on that. We did all our work at Naples Jet Center in Naples, FL.
