Aaahhh the delicate task of ignition points gap setting. Another dying art. Slight decimal correction here for you Geoff.0.40mm is roughly equivalent to 16 thou inches which should be written as .016 not .16 which is 160 thou. There being quite a difference when measuring small gaps like that. Love your content always look forward to it every week.

I have been looking for my first landy series 2a. My question is: which workshop manual should I get? I have heard that many use the Haynes and others use the green one from Land Rover.

Hi Lasse. I would recommend starting with the Haynes manual, this explains things in very simple terms and then I would look at purchasing the genuine Land Rover Workshop manuals. These cover absolutely everything about the car and are a must have, I would further recommend getting and Land Rover Series 2 parts catalogue as this makes ordering parts a lot easier. I have placed some web-links below as to where you can purchase these from. Best of luck with getting your dream 2a. Before measuring the spark plug gap I always tighten the little terminal cap at the top of the spark plug with pliers, they are never a tight fit.

Could benefit from more zoomed in shots on the points work in the distributor. Some of the times the camera could do with better positioning, for example like when setting valve timing on cylinder 1 and the oil filler tube blocks the line of sight of cylinder 1 inlet rocker arm, and both rockers in fully raised position.

You can get failed points to work at the side of the road with a bit of a clean and adjustment, you can't with electronic ones.

hi geoff, with all respect and the video is quite old, but here is something wrong and maybe considerung the flaws wouldnt be a bad idea, without offence, but here maybe are some new kids on the block - sparkplugs: well it depends how much you drive, but they worn out in years, i have my now 6 years and they are absolutely perfect. check them, clean them but change them only if the contact points get to weak - color of sparkplugs: white to hot and/or ignition to early - not good dark ignitin to late - not good -black and white - to rich to early wet : ignition to rich, get gasoline mixed up in the engine oil - not good - what about the ignition cables - mark them on both ends, if corroated change them -spray some wd40 in the conectors at the end of the cable - what a about the ignition cape and finger inside the distribuitor - what about the ignition timing -warm up the car diff gearbox before changing oil lit it drain over night - swivel oil chanfe .... - dont open the gearbox just to see. open it only if something is going on. - never ever force the gear selector in a position by hand. you will bent the gear selectors inside the box and that cause some serious damage well you see there are some critical points imho . not a bad video but maybe itsnt a bad idea to redoit again. cheers

Hi Bernd. Thank you and I agree with colouration of the spark plugs. I think it is worth noting that vehicles are serviced to tackle different conditions. The way you maintain a Land Rover in cold environment is a very different compared to a hot remote part of the world. Thank you again for your input, Kind regards, Geoff
