I don’t even own an LR4, or have any desire to buy one or work on one, but I ended up watching it just to support Mike!
OMG I'm about to change the oil on my wife's new LR4 and was shocked to see this other video of a guy saying that the LR4 does not have a drain plug and needs a pump. I feel doubt for believing it for a minute. I'm glad I saw decided to watch your video. Thank you 👍

They all definitely have a Drain plug, all engines do! (OK, not full EV's) But the main issue is with the Diesel. This video is regarding the Petrol V6 which as you can see is simple to drain with the plug, but gets confused outside of the USA with the V6 TDV and SDV engines. The diesel drain plug faces a crossmember and if you drop the oil by removing the plug before pumping out the main amount of oil it will dump 5.9 ltrs of oil everywhere, hitting the cross member and covering you and the floor with oil that no pan can catch. Hence, don't use the sump plug to drain a Diesel Disco LR3 / 4. I'm based in Australia: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZoxnqbyOqKe9eto.htmlsi=H5VEBKzxIUZcAiZF

Another great DIY, thanks for posting. Breaking the oil filter vacuum and leaving it while you do the main drain is great advice!

@@fcpeuro Agreed great vid, Thanks. The LR4 oil filter housing has a inbuilt auto drain that works by you cranking it open just like you did and leaving it for at least a couple mins to self drain the bulk of the contents.Cheers from the UK
I get my oil change kit for my L494 from FCP Euro. Easy DIY and I know it’s done right. Tip: Fill 1/2 less than full capacity; then top off based on oil level reading in dash (no dipstick).

Great video mate! There are lots of comments on here so just wanted to point out this is the the 3.0 V6 PETROL! Not to be confused with the 3.0 V6 DIESEL which should use a pump to extract the oil before removing the sump plug. Otherwise you and everything else will get covered in oil lol.

@@not-a-raccoon Definitely a manageable task if you drain via the sump plug slowly. I just think the pump is a lot cleaner method.
Hey so inside my oil filter cap, there was a spring and a cap and grommet that looks like it seated within the paper filter. Upon further inspection it looks like the retainer for this spring on the inner base of the oil filter cap was broken. I got a new cap but it doesn’t have the retainer for the spring assembly. Is it needed? I can’t find a cap that has the same internal housing for that tiny spring assembly. 2010 LR4 5.0

Can you do timing chain, belts pulleys, water pump
Do you have to have a GAP tool to reset the car computer for the oil change intervals?
How do you do a prefill on the filter ?
Yeah, thanks for showing us where you check the oil
Thanks for the video. I have a 2016 LR discovery 4 sdv6, In cold start the oil pressure light comes on for like 2-3 seconds then goes off also there is a tapping sound same time. Any suggestions on this issue What oil should I use ? Currently on 5w30 castrol. Thanks Sahan

I have seen a lot of people recommend going to 5W40 oil for Discoveries (LR3/4) with over 100,000km on the clock - this refers to the SDV6 Diesel engine, not the petrol enginse that they seem to like in the US.
Mine says to use 0w-20 is this wrong?
Hey Mike, any chance you could show a spark plug change video?

Hi Caleb, surely something we can add to this list!
Hello, I thought you needed a fluid extractor or oil extractor for this oil change? Thats why I always take it to the shop instead of me doing it myself? Why is this LR4 different? I have a 2012 LR4 HSE V8.

Hi Lino, that may be easier to do if you do not wish to crawl underneath and drain the oil, but you can certainly do a normal drain and fill like this on your LR4.

What do you mean by the oil filter cap 25-newton meters, when putting on the oil filter cap on?
@joicobbs1
Жыл бұрын
That’s referring to the amount of strength used to tighten the filter. At a certain *nm the torque wrench will “break” and prevent you from over tightening

I’m seeing the updated oil weight to use is 0W20. FCP’s LR4 kit and Atlantic British oil change now figure that weight in their kits. That’s what I’m going to use.
Did you really mean 3 days to wait for the oil to drain????
How long does it really take to drain!?

Hi Dante, we let it drain for about 15-20 minutes with it being a tad warm.

Hi Adrian, you may be able to access service mode by putting your vehicle in accessory mode and using the controls on the right-hand side of your steering wheel to access the service menu. From there you will have an option to check your level using the "virtual dipstick".

Oil every 5000 miles!?
@gpaje
2 жыл бұрын
That's pretty conservative these days with a high-quality synthetic oil. Or do you mean they should have gone longer? If that's the case, it's an older car, better to do it sooner than later as they get older and more miles on them.
@samherford1298
2 жыл бұрын
@@gpaje here in the UK the Diesel LR4 has service intervals of 15,000 miles!
@gpaje
2 жыл бұрын
@@samherford1298 Oh gotcha. That's likely a petrol engine which typically has a lower service interval, likely 10K or once a year.
For the love of god dont use 5w-20 if youre doing this yourself. I assume they are using it because it is "factory spec," and they cant use anything outside of that. These engines are very dependent on GOOD oil and regular oil changes (5k miles). The thicker oil of 5w-30 or even 40 helps the life of these engines not to mention your wallet.
