Great video Tony! I recently updated mine to 'Rock slider' steps. Different look but I like them. I was just going to say that after a few years off fitting these kind of after market upgrades I usually throw out the nuts and bolts they come with and head straight to the hardware store and replace with 316 Stainless steel. They cost a little more but even the fact they don't rust and stain is worth the money in my book. Keep up the good work. Thanks from Australia. 🤠
Thanks again for this video, Tony. I did mine today, and it wasn't a job for the faint-hearted, nor is it quickly done at the curbside. I would suggest that if viewers watch this video, they are contemplating doing this job themselves. If side steps are rotten enough to warrant a replacement, most bolts need cutting out/ off. This is because the top of the captive stud is held in position by the actual footplate, and if that has rotted, the stud will spin. Your video has made that part very clear, but I wanted to warn viewers this is not a quick bolt-off/bolt-on job. If giving this to a mechanic (which I recommend if you don't have a grinder, heavy pry-bar and lots of time), I can only imagine you being charged at least 3 hours of labour (plus the cost of the parts). I would dread what a Land Rover dealership would invoice you for? again, big thanks for your helpful video.

For this job best is also to remove the brackets and trim in full. Found enormous amount of starting surface rust on the body as well!
Helpful video, good job. I removed the steps like yours mine were same all gone and were mot advisory. The damage the 3 ss brackets behind the long lower plastic trim each side of your lower sills is awful vs the look or help having steps makes imo not worth the damage they create. As moisture traps at each bracket especially on the passenger kerb side that gets the most spray over time they assist salty wet moisture to completly eat the lower sills. The cost to delete and correct diy or a workshop is not cheap at all. To remove everything make good the damaged sills the £300 for britpart sill metal parts, welding costs, paint of those too, new genuine LR trim sets £400 quid are in 3 parts per side as the originals left have 3 large cut holes from those damaging side step brackets. Your work is helpful but please don’t replace side steps on the disco’s and don’t buy a disco with these on as these are now like mine over several years with these or any s steps fitted and will be just bad. The places where no brackets have been are unmarked on mine its those three points that do the damage. Sorry to go on. Your repair is help but behind those new steps is big costs and pain for some owners at some point for sure. Cheers

Did you not remove the plastic sill and have a look at the metal sill where the bracket bolt on. When I did my 2015 one there was some quite serious rust issues around where they bolted on which I had to treat. Just a heads up pal great videos 👍🏻

Hi Jon. I didn’t remove them, but did get a torch in there. Probably isn’t sufficient to see properly, but it didn’t look bad at all. Unfortunately when we do these things, time is always of the essence right 🙄. Thanks for watching. All the best 👍
Nice one, thanks for doing this video. I’m gonna order a set at the weekend as mine are also badly corroded. Just had my MOT done today and the side steps were an advisory , everything else was tip top. How did you get on with the eBay specials for £130? They look the same as Land Rover, but obviously for a fraction of the price. Just wanted to know if you have any regrets/ advice. Cheers

Hi. To be honest, no regrets at all. There was a slight issue with the very front and back where I said in the video about it fouling and needing to pull down a bit. I did finish up a little off in the end, but never looked or noticed it since. Be prepared for a fight with those fixings. Thanks for watching. All the best 👍

@@vialettotony cheers Tony. I will try and save the original brackets because leaving those in place looks like might save me some time. Plus I suspect they will also prove difficult to remove. Great video and will watch again before tackling the job. All the best.
