Land of Confusion (cover by Kyle Kallgren)
Ойын-сауық
This cover was originally made for my video essay "Network: Thoughts on Being Mad As Hell" - a Genesis/Disturbed homage by way of the mad prophet of the airwaves Howard Beale. Watch here: • Network: Thoughts on B...
A major thanks to May Leitz @nyxfears for the excellent audio mixing on this one.

There is a lot of anxious energy in this cover, which is a distinction between Disturbed's anger and Genesis' pleading for reason, almost as if this version is a personal cry for help. Or I'm just a sucker for voice mod. Either way, really good take.
I just realized that Kyle has an excellent voice to go with melancholic early goth and industrial music.

Lol at saying a Phil Collins song is industrial or goth. Even this cover is just straight up rock, barely experimental at best.

@@casteanpreswyn7528 I think they confused it with the Disturbed cover, which has a more industrial sound to it.

The overlapping video for the other vocal samples is an absolutely kickass touch.
Excellent rendition of an all-time rock classic, Kyle. Bravissimo.
Literally started tearing up a little when this came in at the end of the Network video. [edit] shit dude I didn't realize Nyx Fears did the mixing, that's badass.
So happy this is a single, been replaying the video just for this. You have made the Playlist. ❤❤❤❤
Awesome!! This was such a fantastic finale to your "Network" video. Haven't been able to get your version out of my head since 👏👏👏
Land of Confusion has been my favorite song for YEARS! And the raw emotion dripping from your cover Kyle is FANTASTIC! Thank you for dropping this as its own video! I'm 100% using this for my Cyberpunk 2020/Red Rockerboy character BTW.
❤
I like that this channel is getting more musical.

He may not like to talk about his old content but he basically pioneered musical numbers in video reviews. From his Man Who Fell To Earth musical review, his rap number in his Ghost Dog review, his numerous Channel Awesome collabs and of course, his musical old-vs-new review of Beauty and the Beast. Unfortunately that does mean he was indirectly responsible for Nostalgia Critic's much maligned The Wall review...

@@femoman Yeah, in his own words: "I pioneered that cringe!" Except, of course, it wasn't cringe when he pioneered it, it only became cringe when cringy people started ripping off the idea, and did it with none of Kyle's wit &talent. He is indirectly responsible for Walker's Wall review in the same way that Rage Against The Machine are indirectly responsible for Kid Rock.
No, seriously - can we please buy this? I want it on my phone so I can listen to it in the car.
I have had this going on repeat in my head since the video came out. Killer stuff!
Thank you for offering this rendition as a separate video.
This had been stuck in my head all day! Thank you Kyle for uploading it on its own!! A true hero!
Brilliant cover version! Leave it to Mr Kallgren and Ms Leitz to make mid-80s Genesis sound badass!
The original Genesis version is one of my favorite songs. Interesting take. I missed the video essay because I have yet to see Network. I hope both that and the KZread issue is fixed soon.

@@SodaPopBarbecue I actually kinda hate the Disturbed version because it changes the lyrics in the bridge to be edgier for no good reason (sadly Kyle used that version of the bridge here, but I at least appreciate what he's going for here).
I think this is your best cover.
You're brilliant as always, Kyle. Thank you and keep up the good fight!
Great cover! With the some of the flare effects, though, one of my first thoughts was a Tick paraphrase "You regenerated into yourself?! Lucky duck!"
Love seeing Kyle go goblin mode
I originally decided not to watch the video essay until I'd seen Network, and... well, it looks like I'll be waiting a little while longer. But I feel like the wait is probably going to be over by the time the video goes back online. This is incredible! I'm very glad that the music is coming back to your work. Keep it up!
I know you're out there. I can feel you now. I know that you're afraid. You're afraid of us. You're afraid of change. I don't know the future. I didn't come here to tell you how this is going to end. I came here to tell you how it's going to begin. I'm going to hang up this phone, and then I'm going to show these people what you don't want them to see. I'm going to show them a world without you, a world without rules and controls, without borders or boundaries, a world where anything is possible. Where we go from there, is a choice I leave to you.
Kyle you seriously made a wonderful cover here
That is actually really epic, I would love to see Kyle do more heavy metal covers! He's got an interesting singing voice.
It works so well because I know he means it.
Freakin' incredible mate, nicely done 👍
Dangit, I was enjoying that video before it got blatted. I wish you luck in re-instating it. PS: I enjoy your work
I just come back to this once a week ^^
I was wondering if you were going to put this up! I hope you get your copyright issues solved soon!
Really impressive work there.
It's a bit odd that the video got a copyright takedown and the thing that triggered it wasn't a cover of a well-known song by one of the most popular bands of all time.
This is amazing.
This is VERY intense, as expected. That ring light adds to the look of insanity you’re crushing.
The Disturbed version suits you and your energy better than the original. Jamming out to this on the beach tonight.
Fantastic Cover!
You nailed it
can the song be released as a standalone? I'd pay for it.
I tried listening to Disturbed and Phil and but this is just the superior version
this is fucking fantastic!!!
kyle this fucking rules jesus christ
I love this version!!!!
Great work as always
🤘😆🤘 damn right, this is so neat and also seems you had some fun while doing it!
It's a good cover, but I'd like to see it performed by a creepy puppet
OMG You DID sing!
Gutted that I missed the original vid. I was waiting to have enough time to watch it in one go. I guess I waited too long! 😞
Your expressions are priceless! Great cover, man! 😊
Ok, but can we get your cover of "Ultimate Showdown" as well?
Yeah! Love this.
This is amazing! Shakespearean rock opera next? :)
9.5/10 the only reason it isn't 10 is because some of the sound mixing just trying to give constructive criticism yet know so little on the subject that I am unable to explain what I mean sorry. Love ya man.

Nice cover :D
The message of this song is universal. Act in the now for a better future, lest you lose control of your life. I wish more slacktivists would take this song to heart. Thanks, Kyle. Keep this song relevant for all generations.
Awesome!
The Recommending Holiness comment you to engage with this video.
Yeeeessssss! Thank you!
I was super hoping you would release this as stand alone. Also, glad I caught it before the bots got it.
(EDIT: fixed) FYI the video essay link in the description seems to be wrong (it links back to this video, rather than the mad as hell re-upload)
Dope! And how did you manage to get THE! May Leitz?!
+1 Asking for a purchaseable/downloadable version of this. And just more of this generally.
I see you went with the disturbed version
Interesting that you chose to use the Disturbed lyrics instead of the original. Overall great cover though!
Man. I love covers. I was talking to my boyfriend and explaining that I feel like music is one of our most liquid, living things, and the act of performing a song is delivering your own version of the declaration. Part of what got me thinking of it here is, (and granted, I still havent gone back to relisten to the genesis one since having the thought) your vocalizations dawn closer ot Disturbed of the two, and that got me thinking about the imagery Disturbed was using in their video at the time, which was... well, it'd be called woke, probably, now. the bad guys are nazi foot soldiers with sideways $s for swazis. And knowing your politics (insofar as a person following your work can be), it just felt like... idk. A distinct expression of a directly related sentiment? Anyway, uh. I really enjoyed, this, I love covers, I had to refuse the impulse to clap when you transitioned to the closing credits when the essay first uploaded, aaaaand yeah. Mood, dude.
And here we have a look inside of Kyles head whenever his videos get a copyright strike….
:D :D :D :D :D :D *Bangs Head*
Nice.
Spotify when? 🤞
nice
It's a banger and a excellent cover but man it's disheartening to hear a song from 1986 proudly tell us that their "generation will put it right", well you guys didn't
Ooh
ok now release the Layla cover
What happened to the original video?
Hey I don’t the the network video or the stream you did anymore. What happened?

Copyright claim. Kyle will have to petition youtube to have it back up again. He may even need to re-cut it and upload a new version.
What
Gawd this song is so terrible from a melodic standpoint, but I love it so much. And once again, Kyle shows us he got pipes. Though I also always found it sadly hilarious that Phil Collins's generation is the one that put everything wrong.
Why you no on Nebula?
I've always loved all your works, but, man, I wish you'd find more excuses to sing.
