Currently studying Construction Management in Scotland and coming from a Joinery backround have little knowledge of utilities. Videos like this really help me visualize the processes and gain an overview of everyones roles on site. Great work.

@@aidancameron7972 thanks so much for your comments. I'm glad this video could help. And you're absolutely right, the specifics of land development can vary from area to area, but my goal is to provide a basic logical understanding of the process!

Greetings from the Caribbean islands of Trinidad & Tobago. I just came across your video and it is excellent. Thanks for sharing. What is the software used for these land development drawings?

The designs and plans that I reference have typically all be drawn up by AutoCad.

So does the developer pay for the wiring or does the power company?

It might be different in every city, but around here the utility company would do the cable pull OR the developer can hire a licensed contractor to do it and receive some sort of reimbursement. Some developers go this route so as not to be held up by the utility company's schedule. They can take a while..

Are all of these plans made by hired engineers or in house planners?

  • @landdevelopment1019

Typically done by in-house planners. However, some areas allow outside companies to do it ONLY if they are certified/approved per their standard. It'll cost more money, but it's worth its weight in gold because they can usually pump it out much quicker than the actual utility company can. Depending on how busy things are, you could be waiting MONTHS for the utility company to complete a design. So big developers are willing to pay more to get the plans through much earlier.

SIr, Kindly, Could I know what is the specialization of the Engineer who perform the design ?? it is an Electrical Engineer??? if so what about GAS line design ?

Typically the electrical company will do their own design in-house. HOWEVER, in some places the utility companies will allow qualified 3rd-party companies to do the design for them. (If you're in the Southern California area, be sure to check out Morrow Management if you need any help with this. They're great to work with!)
