A friendly advice from a fellow Indian, associated with the SE ASIA, for the last 26 years, mainly on account of commercial purposes. Why not get a sticker visa for Laos or Cambodia from Hanoi or Saigon, itself? The Laos visa costs, just USD 40/- & CAMBODIA, USD 30/-. Incase, getting a visa from the consulates isn't practicable from your point of view, get an evisa for Cambodia at USD 40/- & Laos at USD 50/-. Don't rely on VOA, with an Indian passport, to ensure hassle/tension free border crossing. You spent around USD 30/-, as bribes alone! For a little more, you may travel by air. Nothing extra to be paid at the airports, other than the prescribed VISA FEE of USD 30/-, incase of Cambodia & USD 40/-, incase of Laos.

For the visa when we applied we had put hanoi as exit point, as we didn't knew the land border from where the bus will take us. Yes call it service charge or whatever you feel we paid extra usd 10

When we went to ho chi Minh, there was a guy from a different flight who was having different port (later he met us at the Airport and we asked him) on the visa he was asked to pay some extra money at the immigration counter. And this happened with us also when we wer about to board flight from Phnom phenom airport
