The extreme width of the runway was due to its use as an emergency landing ground for damaged bombers and, being closest to mainland Europe it was probably the busiest. The approach filmed was the last view many planes witnessed before their last and final landing. RIP to all those crew members who made the ultimate sacrifice.

It was also a post-war/cold war airfield capable of handling V bombers. We used to get the big Antanov aircraft come in here until the early 2000's.

THE BOEING 747 LOCATED ON THE RIGHT OF THE THRESHOLD 28, BELONGED TO THE SOUTHERN WINDS AIRLINE. I WAS THE LAST FLIGHT ENGINEER OF THE LAST FLIGHT (2005). THIS AIRPLANE BELONGED BEFORE TO CATHAY PACIFIC. IT'S A SHAME TO SEE IT NOW DISMANTLED......SOBS.... CHEERS....

Many years since I lived in Ramsgate...but always loved Manston. Now live in the old 'DDR'....but get to see the Junkers 52 a lot...

Let’s hope we see this again. Lancaster landing at manston airport. Closed at the moment. Danger of greedy morons building houses on the land. Not a good idea.

This is what so many RAF airmen saw in human-colour when coming home. Only we see WW2 in black and white. Absolutely awesome.
