Lammas Ecovillage - The Pioneering Off-Grid Community in Wales

A collection of my footage from the Lammas Ecovillage in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Lammas is a collection of 9 eco-smallholdings with a shared community area and hydro-generator.
The Ecovillage is completely off-grid with the exception of phonelines/internet and generates it's own power, collects and processes it's own water and grows much of the food consumed at the site with excess to sell.
This video includes clips taken on the ground, drone footage from the air and a powwow with Tao Wimbush, the smallholder who took us around his plot for the tour that day.
Tour was taken on Saturday 12th August

Nice to see the place mature. Lovely way of living, I do my small bit, by having solar panels on my shed, which run a fountain, the lights in the shed and to an extent in our home. There's also a rainwater system pumped by the same 12 volt system, and even a 12v hedge trimmer thrown out by the typical wastrels of today has been adapted.

River Huntingdon I love it. An accumulation of small acts adds up to an avalanche of change. Do not sell yourself short for there is no such thing as a small act.

Excellent intro to sustainable living, nice one Rik. Hoping to get something going here in Sth Wingfield. Should be quite a challenge what with planning rules, general apathy and 95% of folks glued to their variety of scrying mirrors...oh and the Grand Solar Minimum we're entering. Fun times ahead lol : )

A lot of stuff that was said between you and Wimbush, is explained in different words in The Conquest of Bread and Mutual Aid: A Factor of Evolution by Peter Kropotkin... You really should read those books sometime, they're great!

Thanks for the video me and the hubby are starting our off grid lifestyle while untangling ourselves from our mainstream world I do worry I don't hold the same views as others within the lifestyle choice in the UK and we maybe isolated from communities but it won't stop us we will make our own Eutopia

Great film until the end when the two gentlemen were talking about capitalism. They were not aware that they are living the ultimate of capitalism. Socialism/progressive system is government control of all resources and processes. Capitalism is defined as is an economic system based upon private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit. Characteristics central to capitalism include private property, capital accumulation, wage labor (a person owns his labor and is entitled to the compensation of their own choice), voluntary exchange, a price system, and competitive markets. Another definition: cap•i•tal•ism - an economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit, rather than by the state. In capitalism you own your land, your talents, your labor, etc. Synonyms: free enterprise, private enterprise, the free market; enterprise culture. Sad that our education system is allowing confusion about socialism and capitalism.

M Shrade I am fully aware of the ideas you mention and thank you for your comment. I completely disagree with the idea of Private Property. You cannot truly own anything as it is all borrowed from nature, even the atoms which make up your body. What you can have is Personal Property - that which you actively make use of. The idea of Private Property allows hoarding and thus the use of resources as political might to manipulate and influence. I agree with free association, I agree with free trade, I agree with the means of production being owned collectively, not privately. The idea of true capitalism has some merits, as does true socialism - the solution lies between the two, in my humble opinion. In love and thanks for your interaction.

That's the theory but if u continued to pay a rate to hold that ownership its not fully owned by u also under certain conditionz I understand they intend to take that land and force u into labour camps due to continuity of government, written into law ,which does not sound ethical or legal ,time will tell in the end which system is true to it word or if they are all scams and we are treated more like cattle .

All this is fine when you are young and healthy. What happens if you become very ill, have an accident, need medicines have a child, need education (ok you could do that if you had the time) need police because of theft or threats or even assault or murder. You also need the whole country protected against invasion from say ISIS or Kim Jon whoever. If it had not been in place in the last war you would now be under Nazi rule and either in a concentration camp or wearing jackboots. My father spent five years flying various aircraft in a lot of danger to give you and I these freedoms. Even locally who is protecting you at Lammas from somebody who just wants to take over your land, because he comes along with a gang of armed men. Who created the legal documents to give you control of your land? This all needs infrastructure and power and a workforce and a government. All of this stuff needs taxes. Also what happens when you become old and infirm, or your mind goes wonky (like mine!)

Who said anything about getting rid of structure? Who said anything about not having a peacekeeping force? What makes you think that legal documents do anything but take away your personal sovereignty? Do you need some tyrannical government to tell you the difference between right and wrong? Did you know that both sides of WW2 were funded by the same bankers? Do you have anything to offer to the conversation besides continuing with the status quo?
