Brilliant review. It’s the Lambretta for me, love the styling, detail, and the colour. It looks like what innocenti would be building today had they continued.

Excellent review guys, really enjoyed it and you covered everything 👍 I started the video preferring the royal alloy, but by the end I am leaning more towards the Lambretta. Better brand tyres, storage space under the seat, brighter headlight, better handling..... very interesting 🤔

Had two original Lambrettas and now own a Royal Alloy GP which I Love. Would not, could not, should not ever be seen on the new Lambretta. The whole point of Lambretta is its history and heritage so to turn out a prosaic looking shopper like this is a great dis-service to the brand. Had they turned out the equivalent of the Royal Allow with Lambretta badges and charged £1000 more people would be fighting to own one. A huge missed opportunity for scooterists and Lambretta.

I wouldn't give the Lambretta a second glance on the street because it looks like many other generic, modern scooters, and that 'beeping' would drive me potty! If you just want it for the brand name then go for it. However, if you hanker after that authentic 60's look without the fragrant 'blue smoke' and 'bizzy-buzzy' vibes then the Royal Alloy is the one to have IMHO... 🖖

Obviously this is an old video. But I have two 1965 Lambrettas one I’m riding one I’m restoring.. I’ve been riding my S3 125 for around 6 years now & it’s absolutely awesome on short journeys.. However I’m considering buying myself a new Royal Alloy TG125 LC for journeys up to & over a hundred miles ..as for me at nearly 70 years old & over 6’ tall is very uncomfortable as much as I love it.. For me the Royal Alloy gets my vote as the looks & shape are very clearly based on Lambrettas of old..especially the newer TG models that are based on the old Lambretta S2 Whereas the new Lambretta just looks like another Chinese take off !!

Good review. Let me share my experience... I bought a V200 Lambretta for something different after a string of vintage and modern Vespas. Rode around on it for just 2 months before I sold it. Cons: Seat to floor ratio is way too tight for anyone 5ft 10inch +. The tapered floor makes it horribly uncomfortable for anything greater than 15 min. It feels like you're sitting on your tail bone with your knees above your waist, ergonomically it was rotten for me. WARNING: The seat is perforated and NOT WATER PROOF. You'll be sitting on a sponge after a shower, what a silly oversight! The engine is grindingly noisy, possibly the worst engine I've ever heard on scooter. Speedo is not legible making frequent double takes to check your speed. crappy ground clearance at a lean and prone to picking the rear wheel up when the centre stand touches down, beware, there is very little warning and often its too late when it does! It's SLOW, a Vespa 150 3V will dust it. Lots of vibrations transmitted through the hadlebars. The more you look at it the worse it looks. A design that's aesthetically cohesive should do the opposite, its trivial for many but worth mentioning because these machines were created to do just that. I think this is due to platform sharing with the SYM fiddle. Positives: Appears well put together and the chassis feels tight and stable, L.E.D lights are good, it says "Lambretta" on the tin, tires are decent, brakes work well. Other than that, my suggestion is fork out the extra coin if you want an all metal quality scooter and buy a Vespa Sprint or Primavera. There's are endless customisations, performance parts if you want to reinvent it after some time. Take the "Pepsi" challenge and see for yourself. :)

Strangely, the lambretta details follow the original GP200, whereas the RA side panels are based around the old SX200 although the proportions are annoyingly slightly out. The lambretta is a more homogeneous development of the slimline Lambrettas in the same way that the Vespa GTS is a modern development of the sixties models such as the GS160, or the 150 super which I had around 1970. While the RA aims to replicate the slimline models that Pininfarina styled, the front apron is too rounded more like a series 1 TV 175. The horn cover too misses the mark looking more like something off a Cadillac. The lambretta does it for me I’m afraid. More convincing.

Nice video, if I was after a 125 cc I would pick the royal alloy, and there again white would be my colour. The last ‘ Lambretta ‘ I owned was a 1980 silk Indian made GP200, I loved its looks but out of Vespa and Lambretta I would for me say Vespa. The px is for some reason better to ride as you sit in rather than on it. I’m large and I didn’t feel right with the Lambretta. Currently I have a Vespa px200 and a Vespa gts 300ie. I would have to sit on one of , or both of the new offerings to see how it felt.

The front shocks on Royal Alloy are also dveloped by Honda in early 1980s and was called "TLAD"(Twin Link Anti-Dive) which is using the variable shapes of parallelogram of fixed side length to lessen the dive of emergency brake, thus to decrease the wear out of front shocks.

Quite fancy beeping indicators, good safety feature though self cancelling indicators would be better, bright led headlights awesome. Vespa butty box's on a lammi, really?. I'm sticking with the vespa et4 125, can buy immaculate one with less than100 miles for a grand or so, I like it but may add buzzers for indicators and led lights, and maybe kit engine or water cooled head and 180. Gillera runner barrel. Just stay on top of paint and rust bubbles, treat asap or will rust through. My gp125 was ok but did break down slot. Prefer twist and go to be fair.

The GY6 engines on Royal Alloy were developed by Honda and have a long lasting proven record for being used by scooters of many brands. My 30 years old Kymco 125 scooter was adopting this engine exactly. I never had any troubles about it with regular oil changes. In fact, I bought my Kymco scooter used 5 years old then and rode it for commuting as well as errands with least cares necessary, however it never failed me. Recently I intend to give it a thorough check-up then ride it for a cruising tour around Taiwan for 500 miles.

I can't believe that Lambretta didn't keep the classic look. The new Lambretta styling reminds me of the Vespa Cosa in ways in terms of trying to modernize the look but just not quite getting it right. Once you lose the curves and replace them with angles then you have lost the essence of what a classic Italian scooter is. I used to dream of someone making a reliable, affordable Lambretta automatic that looked just like a GP. Lambretta Innovations were the early runners as I remember back in the day. I think they do another auto clone called a Scomadi. Anyway I just found out that there's a dealer not far from me selling Royals so it's one for me as a fair weather ride next year...can't wait.

Ironically if innocenti were still making lambrettas today they would probably look more like the V125 than the Royal alloy. This whole myth that innocenti would be making scooters that looked like something straight out of the 1960s is rubbish. They would have been competing directly with vespa and improved there range and brought out new models, just look at the mid 1980's Spanish Lynx as an example.

Comparing the two on looks, feel and build, I've been into two shops, which had both on display. I sat on both, and touched the panels etc.. to see how sturdy they are. The RA GP defo easy to tell it's metal! The Lambretta(SYM), not so certain, so I asked the dealer in both shops, and both said Lambretta(SYM) is NOT metal bodied/panels! Lambretta(SYM) is All plastic!! The headset feels plasticky, near the handlebars etc.. However, the RA GP is mostly Metal! And feels a LOT more solid and substantially built! Minus the horn and mudguard, which are plastic! The only plus I can see for the Lambretta (SYM) is slightly less maintenance on the front forks, and maybe better mileage, due to lighter weight plastic panels etc.. Go see for yourself, unless I was told false information by the dealers??? Don't quote me on info I was told! Personally I love the RA GP 125, and waiting to collect a second hand one, with very low mileage from the dealership, I've placed half my deposit down on!

I have owned 3 slim styles an LI 150 aTV200 and a 69 GP200 I bought the first one in 1963 [I was 17] the last one in 1995. If I was going to buy a modern retro twist & go I would buy the R/A as its has stayed truer to type. I think the Lambreta [badge only] has drifted too far away from that look .that front mudguard looks like a pooper scooper but this is only my opinion I would love to try a R/A 200 looks + power a heady mix

When Lambretta bother to conduct market research they will make a 500cc manual SX or TV which will smash Royal Alloy and Scomadi into bankruptcy.

The Royal Alloy is very much like a last build S3 GP Lambretta in looks but is it just not a different moulded Neco Abruzzi by and large? I don't care for the actual Lambretta offering, reminds me of the disastrous and vile LN125 range which in my mind was just a company trying to cash in on a name to a following on what was a hideous moped. I would have a Royal Alloy all day long as a daily as I am fond of the modernity versions, but then I have in my front room a real one, a 1958 first 1000 (no 617) build Li Lambretta in a state of unfittedness of bits and next to that I have my 1985 again first 1000 run build MotoVespa MK1 T5 in a state of apartness awaiting some bits to fix up to get back on road (has a LML Xpress engine in which is as powerful as a Vespa P200 which I bought back door straight from the factory in India and amazing engine) Also do remember that the GY6 is incredibly easy to tune up to a decent 180cc demon or if you want to mess with water take it up to a 250cc nutter build, don't know if you can do that with the Lammy sewing machine engine :S

The GY6 is not an easy engine to up grade. ... Several dealers have backed away from conversion.

Gy6 variants the world over can be tuned easy but the version Frank chose for the Scomadi is an arse to tune up

Hi Guys Good review. I have to say that having owned both a Lambretta LI150 and a Vespa GS 160 in my younger days neither of these light my fire. The Lambretta is pig ugly and the Royal Alloy being the closest to a sixties Lambretta in style still has a long way to go. I appreciate that the bigger 4 stroke engines take up more space in the frame, but really the pillion riders comfort is terrible as far as foot rests are concerned and the exhaust boxes are just plain awful. The sixties Lambretta box was soooo much neater even with a beer bottle pipe and the Vespa was beautifully tucked under the frame with only the tail pipe on view. These two are disgusting!!!! Okay so they both run larger wheels than the traditional scooters but that makes them look too high on the road and with all the rear end hanging out they just look wrong. Sure they have better engines now and maybe more comfortable but its a shame someone doesn't make a proper scooter any more. Regards Dave

I have ridden original Lambretta, more than one but now I ride a Vespa GTS 300. I have toyed with the idea of a Royal Alloy 300 for some time. I am a massive Lambretta fan but if I buy a Lambretta look alike now it would have to be the Royal Alloy. For me the Lambretta design is not close enough to the original, shame. I have ridden a fiddle 3 on holiday in Europe and feel it doesn't quite do it for me.

Where's the Scomadi ?!! - Look into the politics of Royal Alloy; a Chinese company blatantly stole the design and development of British company after agreeing to build the bikes; then tried to put them out of business by supplying faulty engines - look into it. Really liked the review though, but next time choose the Scomadi. (Yes I own a TL)
