Lambretta LI150 - "The Hill incident"

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

A cruise around the countryside on my 1961 Lambretta LI 150 Series 2 Italian Scooter. Half way through you can witness what happens when you tackle a very steep hill in completely the wrong gear.
Later on the Scoot splutters as its main tank runs out of fuel, and you can see me flip the lever to open the reserve tank.
Great fun these old 6.5hp scooters.

OH dear!, that brings back unhappy memories, as a rider in the early 70 I dreaded stuff that stopped working, not just scooters EVERY bike I ever owned lol, some I think I pushed further than I ever drove. Great video, takes us right back thank you

I used to run out of petrol so often on mine, that I became quite adept at moving the fuel tap to reserve with my heel. Your little beauty seems to go pretty fast, keep enjoying it!

Thanks Leanne! Good idea on learning to 'heel' the fuel tap. I'll try that. Safer than leaning over and making the scoot wobble around! Cheers

Hi Greg, the Lambretta was about 1960 workers' motocycle, in Italy, and the Vespa students' motocycle..there was a..war but Lambretta always wins because more speed than Vespa,on the contrary more chic...Congratulations for your Lambretta!

I used to love doing these rides on my SX150 but now I have a constant fear of idiots on the road that spoils it for me, maybe it's just me getting old but as much as I want to I can't do this anymore.

going down the hill, just pop it into 4th and flip the throttle now and then, 4th can also be used as an in gear 'neutral'

You know brother, the best thing in lambretta is the right hand front brake lever. This design has not been repeated in any other vehicle. The position of the front brake lever is so scientifically and ergonomically placed that the rider can never accelerate and brake at the same time and the front leaning is anticipated in that position resulting in smooth and effortless and safe front braking.

two strokes enjoy being thrashed. it's how they work..in the higher Rev range..IE power band what you keep hearing people talk about..dropping out of the power band is when revs drop so low you open throttle and nothing..plus if your engine is bog standard you might want to upgrade for todays driving conditions..25 mph up a hill might have been ok in 1960 but not today. youl get a car driving over the top of you..just takes a car driver to speak to his passenger. turn to talk to kids in the back or tune a radio in and crunch hes on top of your rear wheel..four stroke engines labour more comfortably.
