Lamb and Crab and Curry, Oh My!

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Dinners have been getting boring (or just plain non-existent), so I needed to up my game and try something new! What better way to explore the world of cooking than to randomly select recipes to make for dinner for a week? There were ups, there were downs, there was a lot of random chaos. Enjoy!

New subscriber so I am making my way nonsensically through your videos. I'd love to see more cooking videos. And if you do want to meal plan a bit again with more new recipes I always tried to find good looking ones I had a few ingredients on hand for to save on groceries.

I mostly cook for myself and I'm absolutely unable to cook one portion. I mostly make things which can be frozen easily, make 3 to 4 portions, eat one, take one to work the next day and have one or two more portions for lazy times. Works for me 😊 Your mesls looked delicious!

Okay but you actually went all out and bought whole crabs! Holy moly! I would probably have looked for tinned crab or frozen. Both your faces were a *journey* 😅😂 All the dishes looked so good. You are really good at plating. Also couldn’t help but giggle every time Link jumped or peeked in the background 😂

The randomness of choosing appeals so much to my decision making block that occurs with meal planning. I love shopping for the ingredients & then actually making it, but deciding what to do for dinner is always so hard.

This was such a fun idea! Great way to branch out with cooking, I might even try doing this at some point, just randomly selecting recipes out of my cookbooks and commiting to making them. I'd love to get the title of the middle eastern cookbook you have, I have such a hard time finding good ones (I am middle eastern), the only one I have is a very local one made by the local lebanese church, put together by hand and whose pages are kept together by one of those plastic spirals, so I'd love to get another one!

This is SO my kind of video! Meal planning and grocery shopping are two things I love to do - am actually watching this whilst updating my recipe database. I instantly knew what you were going to say when you mentioned the coriander x') I was already so surprised you couldn't find it at the store haha. And I love gourmet food (tasting menus are our favourite thing when eating out!) at home I always say: it doesn't have to look nice as long as it tastes good! But obviously, I try to make it look good first... And the two of you!!

Aww I'm so glad you liked it! I had so much fun during that week, and yeah, obviously by Friday, I was starting to get a little loopy with Mat over that crab. Tasting menus are my favorite! I wish every meal were just 10 small portions of exquisite concoctions... definitely one of my goals is to create a tasting menu from scratch. Also, why can't we all just call stuff the same names?? I'll take the British names, I like them better - coriander, courgettes, capsicums, I like them all better.

You have a freezer. You have a microwave... When you do something like the beef stew or chicken curry, do LOTS OF IT! It doesn't take much longer to cook a beef stew for 6-8 meals, and that means you can freeze the leftovers in portion sizes and reheat whenever needed/wanted. (And yes, you can also cook rice and freeze it - just under-cook it slightly, and freeze it separately from the stew or curry!) I live alone, so I like easy food - but I also like home-made food, so doing actual cooking twice a week and then having a stash of home-made ready-meals in the freezer? Perfect.

That's a great system! My sister is a master of freezer meals too, but I've never been great at them myself.

@@gettheetothestitchery It's always easy to freeze stews in portion bags - the only trick is to remember to also cook too much rice and freeze it in portion bags. (Freezing potatoes or mash never works well for me, so I don't.)

@gettheetothestitchery - if you're still looking for ways to make food fun, B. Dylan Hollis wrote a cookbook. The ADHD in you will love his Shorts and the ASD in you will love the very clear book instructions and the discussions in the longs. Though you're quite possibly familiar with it already... 🤔 Another one that I think is super handy is benjaminthebaker, who has a lot of Shorts explaining quick pointers about things like what happens when you change the amount of one particular thing
