Lakewood's Tent City Homeless Encampment Under Pressure From Orthodox Jews

Lakewood is the fastest-growing town in New Jersey and is also home to the largest homeless encampment in the state. The tent city has been a controversial topic in town for years, but with the influx of Orthodox Jews, a debate about poverty, politics and fairness has split the community.

excepting the fact that the title is clearly biased in the narrative it wants you to read throughout the clip, exactly how are the orthodox jews helping the tent city community? merely by having ten of them walk through?

The problem with Lakewood is the problem with the entire state. You have a bunch of cute little "Boutique towns and boroughs". Bunches of small towns close to each other with small populations and not much population to tax to maintain social services, which is why our taxes are so high. What we need to do is grow our communities, and consolidate several small towns into 1 large town.

Lakewood already has more affordable housing then any of the surrounding towns including Thoms River, Brick, Howell, and Jackson. yet it is smaller and has less space available to develope then any of them. The residents of this tent city are not originally from Lakewood. Yet somehow this is Lakewoods problem to solve? I live in Lakewood and work 16 hours a day to pay for my mortgage and pay taxes, I also give charity when possible, but would you want a homeless camp moving in next door?

This clip is misleading. Most of the homeless in Lakewood's tent city were not Lakewood Residents. They are people that come from all over the State and even from NY. They do not want to accept housing because that requires drug tests and residents must actively seek employment. The camp is unsafe with open fires and during the winter the smoke from these fires pollute the entire neighborhood. there half already been at least 3 residents that were burned by these fires

no they are not, have friends that lived there. they were offered a tent and a fireplace by donaters, not housing by these jews living there who had money sent to Israel to help them there. go back. how much help do you need. you get help, you cry, and ask for more. and your housing is based on your religion. that is in conflict with the constitution of the united states. if you don't want to assimilate and live by this countries rules. LEAVE

Well Dara Rosen , it is now a year later and the Demolition is almost complete - how many Orthodox Jews helped these people - 0. This is not anti Semite sentiment, it is fact. These people are involve in , and being investigated for religious discrimination in real estate scams ! Do you live here? I have a feeling you have no idea what you are talking about. Almost all the help they received was from neighboring towns and charities - But the Tax evading Hasidic Jews that take advantage of the system by collecting welfare while being wealthy, and not getting married under law so they can claim to be single parents and receive every single benefit - every other house is a "temple" to avoid property taxes - they demand public buses to religious schools, and receive state paid for health insurance - they are a fraudulent group of child molesting ,racist degenerates that refuse the rights of every one that is not a "chosen one" - I love diversity, they do not - everything wrong in Lakewood is due to these greedy assholes. Come here and find out for yourself - I am a Jew BTW - they disgust me.
