Lots of artists call it calligraphy. I call it calligraphy although I'm still too tight with it. I bet a brush like the DaVinci would help. What I use is a soft almost floppy number 2 rigger from the Mimik squirrel line. It holds a decent amount of water and pigment and it's soft enough that I can get wide strokes as well as thin ones.

That was my liner until I found the needle in a size 5. And I used to recommend the mimic to everyone because it's so great but the needle is in a league like none other

This was wonderful, Sandy. I understand what you are doing with perspective, but not when I’m holding a paintbrush! Btw,I too still love to decline sentences and love to figure out punctuation. I think it’s a skill that messes with your brain forever after!!

I saw this and immediately knew that it was Lake Superior (I'm a northern Wisconsinite residing in OR). Your videos are great; your narrative is educational and easy to listen to (SO MANY artists' narrative is filled with non-essential, incessant chatter). Ok few questions: Payne’s grey blue substitute? Red oxide substitute? And guuurrrl I just checked on price of your palette?! Whaaaat?! This is absolutely what I needed to learn how to do! You rock!

Transparent red oxide is like burnt sienna PBG, I don’t know if any great substitutes, but maybe use whatever black you have with some French ultramarine blue - that could be close. And yes that palette was a huuuuuge gift to myself years ago. A reward for something I accomplished (which included years of saving up for it!🥰)
I have the needle brush is a size 5 and it's got to be one of top 3 favorite brushes. But I doubt davinci makes a poor natural brush. I have never been dissapointed.
