From Wikipedia:
Lakeland is a city in Polk County, Florida, along Interstate 4 east of Tampa. The westernmost city in Polk County, it is part of the Tampa Bay Area. According to the 2019 U.S. Census Bureau estimate, the city had a population of 112,136. Lakeland is a principal city of the Lakeland-Winter Haven Metropolitan Statistical Area.
European-American settlers arrived in Lakeland from South Carolina in the 1870s. The city expanded in the 1880s with the arrival of rail service, with the first freedmen railway workers settling here in 1883. They and European immigrants also came because of new jobs in the large phosphate industry that developed. Lakeland is home to the 1,267-acre Circle B Bar Reserve.
Lakeland is the largest city on Interstate 4 between Orlando and Tampa. Large industries in the Lakeland area are citrus, cattle, and phosphate mining. In the past few decades, tourism, medicine, insurance, transportation, and music have grown in importance.
Citrus growing dates back to the early settlers who planted trees in the area in the 1850s. After a series of freezes in counties north of Polk County, the area became the focal point for citrus growing in Florida. Although citrus is no longer the largest industry in the area, it still plays a large part in the economy of Lakeland and Polk County.
Phosphate mining is still important to the economy of Lakeland, although most of the mining now takes place farther south. The Bone Valley produced 25% of the U.S. phosphate supply.
Lakeland's largest employer is Publix Supermarkets. Publix is one of the largest regional grocery chains in the United States with over 1,000 stores across the American South. Publix employs over 6,500 people in the Lakeland area including headquarter and warehouse employees.
Lakeland is a transportation hub. FedEx Freight and FedEx Services and the Saddle Creek Corporation employ over 600 people in the area. Other large employers in the area include Amazon,[66] GEICO, Rooms To Go, and Lakeland Regional Health.

Mileage Mike, Oh my such a beautiful video of Lakeland! I live in Combee settlement, Woodland Estates, outer part of Lakeland before Auburndale. We have a Lakeland address but are considered Polk County, if that makes sense. I don't get out much, since I no longer drive and depend on my husband of 41 years to take me places when he is off work. The route you took for your video was a real eye opener for me that I enjoyed so much! I was not aware of the new housing for the college (I am thinking they are for the college, if not let me know.) Everything was so wonderful, most of the homes shown seemed to be freshly painted in Florida colors. I especially loved the yellow and ocean blue ones! Oh and let me say I miss going and feeding the birds at Lake Morton! We used to take our four children when they were little, and when they became parents they would come pick me up and we along with the Grands would feed the Ducks, Swans and the White Ibises with their bright orange beaks better known as 'Swamp Chickens' or sometimes called the 'Florida Chickens'. Our youngest Grand Daughter (6 yrs going on 60) loves seeing the 'Swamp Chickens' when they land in our yard and poke around for worms, she would love nothing better than to try and pet them, but they are having nothing to do with her, quickly walking and move on to the next yard for some space. If you don't mind I would like to send your video to my Mom who is 94 years old living in Wake Forest North Carolina at a lovely assisted living apartment. She loves Lakeland, and was last visiting us about maybe 18 years ago, the last trip was just before she and my Daddy had to give up their home in Petersburg VA to move to a assisted living apartment in Richmond, VA. Last year three days before Mothers Day my Daddy passed away, and Mom moved to where she is now, because my brother lives about an hour away, so he helps, her by taking her to the doctor visits, out to eat and his and his wife's home for holidays. I know your video will be very welcome and appreciated, if you will allow me to send it to her. I feel that permission should be gotten before sharing, that way one would not be in violation of copy rights. Please let me know by emailing me at 1313 Sixtyone@gmail.com, my name is Donna Lee Avera' Hunter. Thank you in advance, and Thank you for a wonderfully beautiful video about our city of Lakeland, FL.

Should have shown the south side with the family orientated new homes and neighborhoods. Also homes that are newer than just the homes in video. Makes this place look dumpy. What about lake Hollingsworth and Florida Southern Collage? There is so much more to see. It seems like you went around in circles for 30 minutes. The parkway for Tampa and Orlando visitors would have been helpful. Some explaining of areas would have been helpful. Some viewers were under the impression we are just a 1 horse town lol. Lakeland does have something for everyone. Just remember it's not Chicago or New York.
