live and learn, when you all decided to fly in all the trusses at once so you didn't have to bring the crane back out, I was a bit skeptical, but you pulled it off ... well done!

Since we are building the house between working full-time, raising a family and travelling to the site, having a crane return on multiple occasions would have been extremely expensive. Apparently we enjoy a challenge! Cat

Thank you! I am an awesome assistant. 😊 Kevin is away for a few days and I had to install something on my own and I really wished I had an assistant of my own to hand me my tools and clean up after me! Made me appreciate me on the job site more 😅

Hello Kev and Cat, making wonderful progress. I have to say Larry, and Barry was getting their workout, Bob looked pretty lonely though, and we don''t want to forget Sally Scaffolding! LOL 😂 Quite the crew you got their, I do have to admit, I think you got your moneys worth with Larry, he's been quite the performer! 😄 Keep up the great work, can't wait for the next video, take care!

Don’t get me wrong, you’re building a beautiful house at a stunning location but why such a complicated roof? (Belgium)

Yes, we ask ourselves that EVERY SINGLE DAY! Why did we not design a square house with a flat roof? That would have been so much simpler, but what fun would that be to watch? Catherine

You should have balloon framed the end wall. How do you plan to get the hinge point out of that wall?

At the time of building the lower section of the wall we didn’t know the exact dimensions of the truss so didn’t want to balloon frame. Once the entire roof is on, we can come back and sister up a 2x4 to the 2x6 and have it span the hinge point to take any flex out of the wall. Thanks for watching!

You need to sack your engineer. Every truss diagonal brace is in tension not compression 🙄👎 What difference does it make? All the weight is supported by the gang nail plates on the trusses, not by compression of the diagonal braces against the main chords of the truss. That particular softwood grows very fast, and its tensile strength in tension isn’t great at all. The risk is, that the gang nails just pull through the softwood. How do I know? I was a forester who grew those softwoods. I’ve seen them tested to destruction for tensile strength for use in transmission wire poles & cross beams etc. It’s your house & I really don’t care either way. Your over reliant on nails, there’s no noggins anywhere in any frame, there’s not one screw or any adhesive anywhere used in your double & triple ply end trusses etc. But you don’t listen to any of your comments section anyway, so why would anyone bother to tell you anything? Another 30 odd years as a master builder allows me to spot the flaws of this build. You will get it built & it will look fine to the untrained eye & barring any destructive disturbance events like tornado, hurricane, cyclone etc, it will likely serve you well and out last your life times. But it still ain’t engineered or built “right”. If “near enough is good enough” standard of design & construction, then well & good. What’s dangerous - is others might be lead to believe that they can & should do same. Whatever. 🙄

Thanks Ian. We are a husband and wife team working hard to build our dream house. We are not SMEs when it comes to engineering so we rely on those from the truss manufacturer, architects, etc…. We do however follow the manufacturer installation instructions and they call for specific nailing pattern and size of nail. The trusses don’t need glue or screws. I know the specs are different in various locations but this is what is called for in our area. We are also not a how-to channel but rather just 2 people working hard, sharing our adventures and providing some entertainment for those watching. Thanks for watching!

What type of trusses are these? Looking at replacing the roof on my lakeside cabin as well, and those trusses are perfect!

@@MarkB-zk4zyWe provided our architectural plans to the Truss manufacturer and they designed the truss based on the dimensions, pitch of the roof, and the cathedral ceiling. I am not sure there is a specific “type” as you asked?
