Lake Michigan Ice Balls ...
Ойын-сауық
'ice balls' along Lake Michigan shoreline near Traverse City this time ... I never know where they will show up, but they usually do every year. Interestingly the little bit of western shoreline I visited this same day, there was no ice buildup ... the only buildup I found was on the eastern side of Leelanau and then only in cove like spots that could 'herd' the balls together. Another interesting finding is their weight ... I assumed they were heavy like the ones I find on the shore, but as you can see in the clip, picking one up and tossing it was no problem ... they were made of frozen slush, but of a very airy consistancy. They were dense with water, but when lifted, the water poured out of it leaving a 'honey comb' like ball of ice. So interesting!
