Lake District Wild Camp At Red Tarn - Helvellyn via Striding Edge, Swirral Edge & Catstye Cam

Lake District Wild Camp At Red Tarn - Helvellyn via Striding Edge, Swirral Edge & Catstye Cam
So into the Lake District this week for a wild camp at Red Tarn under the awesome mountain of Helvellyn with the one and only Mooster Outdoors. Then we bagged the Helvellyn summit via Striding Edge, back down Swirral Edge and then to the summit of Catstye Cam.
Was a great camp and we had pretty decent weather, although there were a lot of storms round the country and think we got the tail end of them in the night it was very windy indeed and did get pretty chilly with the wind chill after the sun had set.
Wind had calmed down dramatically though in the morning which was perfect for us to conquer the knife edge ridge of Striding Edge to the summit of Helvellyn, admire the views then head backdown Swirral Edge, bag the summit of Catstye Cam and head back to the tents.
Was an amazing time absolutely LOVE the Lake District.
Thanks for watching and sharing the adventure with me, please hit the like button if you enjoyed the video and subscribe for more content if you like anything with the great outdoors.
Taker care... ATB

Hey Chris!👋 another one we saved for the big screen and I'm glad we did! Amazing video! They keep getting better😊👍. Has something changed with your filming equipment on this one? The footage looked so high quality! Onto the hike and pitch, wow! That pitch by the tarn was incredible!🥰 very well done to you and mooster for this route, it's on our list, we have been to the summit of helvellyn before on my late mums birthday so has a special place in our hearts but only from the thirlmere side. Absolutely awesome views you got, those clouds big wow! Clouds and trigs! Love it😁👏👍. We think your channel will be big and its so deserved, the best content we have seen since Haze outdoors in our opinion! We watched you back to back with hazys latest video. Keep it up we look forward to your next adventure🥰👍 Pete and Shell

Hey!! Oh wow 😱 MANY THANKS indeed!! I am honestly so happy that you are enjoying my videos it really does mean a lot 🙏🏼😊😊 Nothing has changed at all still using my Gopro Hero 9 Black, love the little thing is such a cool camera. It really was a cool little pitch, we did look round most of the tarn but that seemed to be the best spot and best ground when we were there. Ahh cool well then yes you definitely need to do it its such great fun. Just take your time and be careful 🙏🏼 That is madness being compared to Haze Outdoors 😃 thanks for such kind words and feedback this has definitely give me a boost of confidence to keep making my videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Really hope you are having a good week and youre both well. Thanks and look forward to your next adventure also, love your channel too!!! Take care and ATB... Chris

Hi! For some reason I have a notification for your other comment but when I click on it its not on here 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔 I do have some new gear though yeah and wanted to replace my Vango 2 man tent, knew the Helms are awesome and love the '1' so got the 2 man version too haha. Thanks mate!! Yeah was a lot of stuff going on in this video lol it was originally about 33 mins but managed to try and cut it down a bit haha. Yeah that sounds awesome mate, apparently in this Tarn too there is a certain type of very rare trout apparently only found there.... Not sure what the fishing rules are but if you are allowed to fish then the OS map usually puts a pic of a fish in the water. Not sure about in the wild like that, suppose it would be the same as wild camping, dont do ut blatant and try to go to a part out the way of people maybe. Most people I know here who fish all do night fishing, maybe for that reason? Id have to ask them im sure they would know the crack.... Thanks Gus!! 👍🏻

Ahh cool really happy you enjoyed the video so THANK YOU very much indeed!! It is amazing there but would need extra caution doing the edges in the clouds / wind / rain etc. Id definitely recommend doing it the way we did especially if its the first time you're doing it. Going the other way isnt to bad on Swirral Edge but can look extra daunting on Striding Edge cus younare going down a lot of steep rock faces rather than climbing up, it makes you look down more and you can see the drop where as you dont get that the other way cus you're looking up haha. The Helm 2 is brilliant have had delta pegs for a while but thought id take them this time as we were gonna be quite high up and there were a lot of storms round the country that night. Luckily we were just outside the 'warning area' on met office and MWIS but we definitely had some tail-end of the wind at night was pretty bad and cold once the sun went down. Amazing views all round loved every minute there was a great camp. Once again many thanks for watching as always and hope you enjoy the restbof your weekend too!! Take care.... Chris ❤❤👍🏻👍🏻😊😊

Hi Ben!! Thanks man really glad you enjoyed it and was cool too bump into Paul (a Cumbrian lad) on the way down haha. You should definitely have a blast one day if you feel comfortable but definitely do it the way we did. So if you're coming from Glenridding and arrive at Red Tarn go up Striding Edge and down Swirral. If you come from Thirlmere side again then definitely still go down Swirral and back up Striding. Striding Edge can look extra daunting going the other way especially if its your first tine doing it. Either that or go down Swirral and if you weren't keen on that you can always go back up that way. If you ever fancy doing it let me know ill be more than happy to do it with you. I have still got the Helm 1 mate just wanted another 2 man tent to get rid of my Vango Tempest 200 Pro and was so impressed by the Helm 1 I thought ill just get the 2 man version of that.
