My dad was a house painter. I learned very young that it's all in the prep work, because when I worked with him, I did a large part of the prep work.

Mud pumper is the quickest way to level 5 with a 4' knife to skim the whole board. Also the automatic taping tools are essential for time saving.

That's a huge tank... We live quite comfortable with only, 3k and a 4k tanks. We use 2 tanks to make sure the water stays circulated and fresh. Switching tanks. No chance for photosynthesis does not set in. Have several 3k tanks on property for ag... At 3000ft, and 8 miles to nearest road,,, water is very important.

Very cool... Rainwater collection is right up there with geothermal heating in my book. Can't wait to see how big of a 39000 gallon tank is :-)

I have bent drywall by wetting it before. I wasn't putting it on a ceiling though. It was for a wall. I messed up a couple of the first sheets when I was learning. I bet you guys have some cool tricks since you do it a lot.

I've never been a fan of a textured finish on drywall. You don't see it very often in the north where I live (Ohio) so it must be a southern thing. At least now I see why it's done....because it's lees labor intensive. I always thought of it as an extra step above a smooth finish, but the smooth finish takes more time and skill to finess.

Since you recently ALMOST built a barndo in six weeks, I'm thinking you already know who is late to ship, build , etc and are already working the problem. My bet is you will throw in a Christmas tree for gits and shiggles! Awesome looking barndo- looking forward to the nitty gritty to get sheetrock really flat and the curved ceiling. I got to be helper for about 2000 sq. ft. of window pane paneling for a remodel for a family member- I could hide the Grand Canyon behind that! Lots of fiddly work though. Speaking about the six week barndo- where did you and Leroy do that feed?

Hey Erik, little off subject, but i was wondering why you don't go with HELIX Micro Rebar in your concrete pours. You should do a test piece, 6" a foot thick or whatever, 2'x2' square. Do one with Rebar & one with HELIX Micro Rebar mixed at 5-7lbs per cubic yard. Put a Jack Hammer to both. You won't want to pour any other way, it will save on all the Rebar work.

Bending drywall: Light water spray the back. IT DOESN'T TAKE MUCH. and you can stretch the back paper. Clamp to the desired curve and screw in place.

Can you please do a video on hail , dents from accidents etc.. I have kids under 10 and live in an area that gets hail storms twice a year. I'd hate to see the steel exterior damage from hail or one of the kids throwing a baseball and accidentally hitting the house. A video on how to repair the exterior would be extremely helpful. Thanks .

I watched your videos the otherday about how you got started in Barndominiums, these videos make a lot more sense when we see you talking about imperfections and stuff , you’re a perfectionist haha but those videos you made you explained why you are the way you are, in the past I use to think , fk Erik is picky haha but yea it all makes sense

I would be concerned about drinking the water that comes off a roof. Mostly worried about the chemicals in the paint and washers from around screw head. Those kinds of chemicals aren't easily filtered out, if at all. However still an interesting way of doing things and you could simply buy water strictly for drinking and use the roof water for the vast requirements of a home.

The water is in contact with the roof for only a very short period of time. If the paint and washers were so reactive to water contact they wouldn't last very long in a roof application.

Maybe it's a Canadian thing... but drywall is always finished smooth as a standard. Texture or any other would be extra...

"Texture hides the flaws" Not when Centek does the building. I'm pretty sure most of their workers don't know what a level is.

Most people think crown molding and such is there to add accents to the room. While it doesn’t hide as many sins as knockdown texture, it sure does hide a few.

Eric, Here in the northeast the predominant wall and ceiling finish is a two layer, skim coat plaster over blueboard. I have worked in the south and know that they don't usually plaster because they just don't know how. Do you have people in your area with the skills to do plaster? Why rely on Drywall? If I were to build a house in Texas I would want plaster. Thanks.
