The emperor was not meant for ruling in that cruel time. He was a great artist with very sensitive heart, great human being, far ahead of the time.

Bahadur shah zafar is one of the greatest moghuls notwithstanding his lack of real power . He was really a shadow of God! Himself a great poet, a connoisseur of arts , and above all he had a lofty heart ! He stood for the unity of Hindus and Muslims, strove to protect it in troubled times , tried even to protect the poor English women and children during the mutiny to the extent possible. Its high time we honour his noble memory !

That poor fellow was less ruler, but a more poet, and this poetry cost him very dearly. He wasted all his energy on poetry and was surrounded by cheap poet friends, just to hear Wa, Wa & wa (without any means or logic). He did't give much attention on his country's affairs. The cunning people who were granted permission to enter India for business, took full advantage of his laziness and slowly, slowly grab and control the whole country, and kick him out of India for good!! What a price of trust he had to pay??

and the people suffered as a result. He might be a good poet but a lousy protector of his subjects. When he wasn't writing poetry he was shagging the women in his harem - had at least 80 kids.

इस वतन के कोहिनूर फनकार रफी साहब ने जिस अंदाज मे " न किसीकी आंखका नूर हूं " यह गीत गाया है , वह सिर्फ रफीसाहब ही गा सकते है । संगीतकार त्रिपाठीसाब की भी क्या कहने है !

Muhammad Rafi has incomparable and outstanding qualities like sweeter than honey, crystal clear, highly pure and unique voice, cleansed pronunciation like shiny pearl, exceeding to limits talent which presents uncounted actions at the same time with great skills looks like computerized machine, the potential to touch the heights of sky in Alaap and expressions of emotions and much more, on the top of it the domination of spiritual strength due to his devoid of hypocrisy great character, his soft and tender heart and his good and righteous soul.

Feel very sad for him. He was caught in the wind about which he was not aware. The British, who once prayed to Moghuls for lease of land in Kolkata, treated him so badly when he was taken a prisoner. They even left no trace where he was buried! Read history to know how his sons were mercilessly killed by British, how they looted Delhi and how thousands of Indians were hanged by British just as a pleasure to avenge the rebellion. And who helped the British? Indians!

thanks for writing as I had not heard such wonderful couplets of the golden ghazal. Urdu language has such sweetness as one can get diabeties by sheer listening .

well i m not very old and i dont know much about bahadur shah zafar but i like this song or poem whatever it is its sad to say but my own friends do not like these types of songs i want people to know about what happened in ur past how we r what we r and also many other things but they dont understand

most people fail to hear the message. that being the cruel barbaric imperialist whose single purpose was to exploit the wealth and resources of its colonies. not even its king was allowed 2 yards for burial. we should not be wallowing in pity but being angry at the perpetrators and cogniscent of the western imperialism which continues still albeit in many other forms. i.e. language, culture and finance. unless we break this mould we will always be their slaves. i was heartened by at least one commentator who suggested the whole of the sub continentshould unite. this will scare the shit out of the western powers. remember how they subjugated us. DIVIDE AND RULE.

i heard while our ex-president Mr.Abdul Kalam visited Bahadur Safar Ali's Rangoon house in Burma and kalam replied in writing with small poetry

It is out of question to say or comment on Bhahadur Shah Zafar,Zauq, Meer Taquie Meer , Ghalib & other Urdu's ustaad poets during the time of Bahadur Shah Zafar.When Bahadur Shah Zafar was in British custody he wrote a stanza of ghazal which is very touching " Bada bad naseeb hay Zafar dafan ke liye, Do guz zameen bhi naseeb na huyie ku ye yaar ko.
