Love Gaga! I remember when she first hit the charts, I was driving with my mother, when Gaga came on the radio, I went to turn it down, and my mother said, " don't...I love Lady Gaga". So much for trying to figure out my mother.🤷‍♂️

Lady Gaga is so talented. Dancing, singing, songwriting, piano, she can do it all. Such a diverse music career. I love this phase with her crazy outfits and bold music videos, but I also love her duets with Tony Bennett which are a totally different vibe.

"Psycho," "Vertigo," and "Rear Window" are all Alfred Hitchcock movies, though I'm not sure why she's referencing them. All of them feature central characters with destructive psychological obsessions, so it could be a continuation of her telling her would-be lover that she wants everything about him, even his mental problems. As she says at the start, "I want your ugly, I want your disease" (one of the great opening lines!)

Honestly, they were pretty obvious, pedestrian lyrical references. They’re single-entendres at best. And yes, there’s a play on words to make it sound like she’s alluding to her partner’s penis and to anal sex, but really, she’s just listing horror films. Blah. Mystery solved.

If you strip back all the artifice and kookiness what you have is an incredible singer songwriter artist in Lady Gaga or as she’s also known Stephanie Germanotta from New York. I think this was the first music video to hit 1 billion views on KZread.

The whole point of her looks was that she could become famous by doing all these ridiculous looks, but so many of them have a deeper message behind them. True, it’s one thing to say women are treated like objects in show business and quite another to construct a dress out of Angus beef. In this video, Lady Gaga is commenting about how female sexuality and beauty is monetized. Women in pop music have flaunted their bodies for views for as long as there’s been music videos. Gaga is doing that here too, but she’s doing so in the context of her character being literally sold for her body. By killing the man at the end who bought her, she’s symbolically reclaiming her sexuality. (This is also a not-so-subtle metaphor for the music industry - Gaga is being sold for her body, but she also has a whole team of people getting her ready before being displayed for predatory male “executive” type characters) Yes, she is making these points in really outlandish costumes and outlandish makeup, but those artistic choices served what Lady Gaga was trying to say. She was making herself into a celebrity and using all these antics as a point about what our culture values. She called this “the art of fame” - the idea that she could become famous by behaving like a famous person.

I really like your take on the music video as well as the song. The video is very elaborative and full of fierce moments (the facial expression, movements, wardrobe, and dance choreography). I was confused a lot of the times but I appreciated the work put into it. I wasn't as crazy about the song as I did with the choreography which I only know from the chorus section lol

Am I crazy that I find Lady Gaga to very beautiful outside of all the nutty costumes? Is it just me? In French she basically repeats the lyric: "I want your love and I want your revenge". I've also thought that she's this guys friend but, he doesn't see her that way; "I want your love. I don't wanna be friends." They're better as friends but, her desire for him leads her to trying all sorts of different looks to get him to notice her.

Vertigo Schtick? That's curious. I have experienced Vertigo. It's the feeling of being dizziness, like your centre of gravity has shifted and you can't get it back. Schtick? Trademark behaviour or routine or signature characteristic unique to you. Combined it registers to me as either, instability or some form of crazy facade consealing the truth. Maybe she doesn't want to play games and just wants to get straight to the point (heart of the matter).

After all these years, this is still my favorite Lady Gaga song. And video! In the video, I took it as Gaga's love was *so* burning hot, it set fire to the bed. And her "lover"! He just couldn't handle it. He had no idea what he had paid for. 🛏🔥😈 As for the song, I think the title says it all--two people who are in love but shouldn't be, because they are really, really bad for each other.
