incredible bodies on these skaters, they're so lilt in their movements without skates. and love this video format btw, showing the crowd, athletes working out and trying to get in the right frame of mind, the band, people having a good time, this is what it's all about, nice job.

such an awesome sport! love how they dress with tights and sport glasses that make them look like superhero.....how they glide gracefully thru the turns. just awesome! i wish i could skate like that but i can't skate at all.

It gets easier over the years once you go to the rink regularly.

This was one of the events I enjoyed watching in 2014, so I'm glad it made the 'Sochi 365' collection. Having just won her fifth global 500m title in Kolomna (and done a lowland sub-75 again!), Lee Sang-hwa is not far off from becoming the 500m GOAT. Should she win the next two titles in her home country (2017 SD Worlds and Pyeongchang 2018), IMO she will earn that status. On another subject, the Dutch dominance of the speed skating programme in Sochi was such that they made the podium in every single event - hell, not even their Achilles heel (this very event as it happens) could deny them a top-3 finish. [P.S. It's a shame the variety of 'as-broadcast' Sochi 2014 footage made available for public viewing post-Games is nowhere near what was made available for London 2012...]

Their physical demand must be great, kudoes to the winner and all other competitors.

I liked when they put microphones on the ice to hear the sound of the skates. It was spectacular. I don't remember if it was in Salt Lake. I will search.

They are A LOT faster in person. It looks slow because of the camera changes.
