This is during the times of the 1920s to 30s. It was sometimes like this.

I love how everything in this short is in muted, solemn colors except Mitzi, who is vibrant and warm, especially compared to a very greyscale-like Atlas. It really helps emphasize how Mitzi is a ray of sunshine in Rocky's rough life. Little touches like this just prove how talented these animators and directors are.

I love that this show is being powered by pure fan-support and is still racking up some big bank. It doesn’t need streaming services or advertising.

I love how this shows why Rocky is so devoted to Lackadaisy and Mitzi in particular. He's been looking for somewhere where he can belong for so long even if it's just to be tolerated by the people 😢

Love how they're keeping the characters' skeleton sketches. It emphasizes how this setting is a lot more "scraping by" and how not every character is able to pay the bills.

someone who worked on this actually mentioned that with the way toon boom (their animation program) worked, they couldn’t actually “keep” the sketches, so they actually manually drew them back in on top of the clean lines! the dedication for this show is incredible

Lackadaisy inspired me to write my own comic about a young cynical black-footed cat serial killer named Jenni Graves, who's after her father's killer and her more cheerful cheetah partner, Marley Dash. If Lackadaisy is accepting character ideas and submissions, I would be more than happy to give them Jenni and Marley, free of charge! Jenni was inspired by Mordecai whilst Marley was inspired by Rocky.

I know, I just checked! So now we get a full five-episode season and 3 shorts. And there's still three days left to donate. I know it's unlikely, but if we hit 2 million, we can get a full Season 1 Blu-ray release; including all five episodes, the shorts, the pilot and maybe more.

Rocky looks so cute in this! It almost makes you forget about how at one point he maniacly laughs while chucking dynamite of of heavy machinery- Also the violin being yeeted out of the car physically hurt my feelings

Never read the books but if it's supposed to be adapting that then maybe but if not you're at a 99.99% chance of overhyping this show almost exclusively based on the animation quality which seems to be the standard when judging animated media rather then the supporting role it should be (I was talking about KZread projects exclusively)

I know this would be lost in the vast sea of comments, but this series skyrocketed and now almost 1.5 million dollars as of this moment, amazing what great writing and animation can get this to be where it’s at, and let’s not forget about the voice actors and actresses, they made the characters feel more alive and well written and have a great sense of humor, amazing how something like a regular comic stories that was released almost two decades ago and now have a fan base that loves it, I didn’t read any of the comics yet but I am thinking about it but it’s not stopping me from enjoying this beautiful masterpiece of animation, may this series have many more years of success, and let the people who are working on this, thank you, thank you for making all of this happen, and this concludes my opinion, may everyone have a great day or night, and once again, thank you

Bro I only watched the pilot two hours ago and it already inspired me to make more art and start animating

I will rewatch the Lackadaisy pilot 100 times, just to give them enough money to make the first season.

Not even 2 hours since this is out and the funding has reached almost twice the goal. That’s insane!! So so VERY excited for a season one of this show, and congratulations!!!

I’ll be honest I LOVE how you showed Atlas. Even though he’s there, he’s still quiet and looks like he’s hiding a few secrets in him, just as how it’s shown every time in the comic! I love it! Hopefully production goes wonderfully for you all!

Now that you point it out, most of the scenery is greyscale besides Rocky and Mitzi, and some of the lighting. Really makes them stand out.

Looks like we're really gonna see Rocky's backstory proper, the depth of his character and it looks like his relationship with Mitzi is A LOT deeper than originally expected. Seems she's one of the two mother figures in his life after his own mother's unfortunate passing: his aunt Nina being the more stern one teaching him responsibility (if he's even capable of learning any) and Mitzi being the warmer one providing him with support. Also, the animation continues to be AMAZING. Keep it up Tracy, Fable, Michael, Ashe, SungWon, Bel, Lisa, everyone!

Whatever happened to make Mina kick him out, it must have been BAD when you consider the amount of patience it must have taken to raise him. Perhaps it had something to do with Freckle's father... I hope we get a reunion between Rocky and Freckle, the first meeting between Ivy and Rocky, and how Rocky ended up stepping in to fill Mordecai's shoes. Also I wonder how old Rocky is in this trailer? 19?

It also makes sense that he'd be a little crazy -- he was clearly a manic child in a time when people frowned upon anyone outside of cultural norms -- and after finally getting a one-in-a-million chance to pursue his dreams, only to find that chance slip away with the Speakeasy, must have been maddening. So he ends up bootlegging -- even though he's not good at it -- which makes him even more crazy because he has to desperately cling to that dream and it's putting his life in danger. He's way more complex than at first glance.

As a fan of any truly good animated films, I would LOVE for this show to be as popular as Hazbin Hotel, or The Amazing Digital Circus

Mitzi was the only one who gave Rocky an actual chance, it's easy to say now that we know why Rocky is actually so loyal to her. Also, I love that Rocky was playing his violin. Keep going guys! ❤

The pilot set the bar pretty high. Here's to hoping it lives up to the hype! 🍻

To be honest, I'm glad that enough attention will be paid to Rocky and his backstory will be told to us, because I myself was in some way looking for a better life. Show Rocky's optimism, how he does not give up no matter what, and even if he is kicked out of the next shelter with a powerful kick, he gets up, smiles and goes forward. How does he do it? How does he have the strength to smile despite what happened to him? It should be a good story!

the art style, the soundtrack, the coloring, all of this combines very well the atmosphere of the moment in which the characters find themselves. Lackadaisy has a very promising future, with a unique and striking style. I'm happy to see what a simple comic that started in 2006 is becoming.

It's... honestly kinda surreal to see Rocky with such a placid, not-at-all crazed smile on his face. Really emphasizes just how much his time with Lackadaisy changes him.

Somewhat, from what we see in the comics it does seem like Rocky has been crazed for a while, before working at Lackadaisy and such. It seems more that his craziness is able to flourish a bit more in his current employment, but we‘ll see. Other than the letters to Freckle and some scattered conversations we don’t know much about pre-Lackadaisy Rocky, which makes this even more exciting!

@@FlowerPower0442 I always got the feeling more that Rocky's exuberance was always a side of him he used moreso to hide a lot of sadness. He does actually enjoy working for Lackadaisy but his overly exuberant personality during the comic is moreso cause he knows the buisness isn't doing good and doesn't want it to go away as he really doesn't have anywhere to go. Rocky's mom is dead, his aunt (Freckles mom) kicked him out of her house and doesn't like him, and his dad is implied to of ran off somewhere and doesn't want him either. Poor dude has literally nowhere to go.

@@WeaverOfStars Oh absolutely! His usual over the top behaviour is certainly a way to hide a lot of complex internal sadness. He‘s had a rough go of life, and Lackadaisy honestly seems like the last thing he has. He clings to it with all he‘s got, and essentially obsesses over Mitzi as the one person who is still giving him a chance (and hasn’t seemed to push him away previously, only accepted him). He‘s been through a lot, so I guess maybe calling him crazy for his covering demeanour wasn’t the best choice of words on my part lol. He‘s just troubled and trying to overcompensate to an extreme degree for it. Well, except until he got his skull cracked by the front bumper of a hearse. He is absolutely nuts after that.

The way Mitzi reached out to Rocky. I think that’s one of the reasons why he developed feelings (in his own way) for her.

She was probably the first person in a long time to speak with encouragement and appreciation to him and wilfully use his services, so no wonder he became attached and devoted to her - plus, she was pretty hot, so that's another reason.

Disney, & all that it owns stocks on, are dying dinosaurs who're commiting the seppuku that is wokeness & political correctness. Plus, the truth about them being involved with sex/child trafficking, the C_A's Operation Monarch project, and subliminal occultic messaging is coming to light more so than ever. At this point in time, Lackadaisies animation is an absolute breath of fresh air for independent animation in total. I look forward to viewing how this'll unfold.

Also has the potential to be a lot more mature and adult-oriented than anything by Disney (there is blood shown, people (cats?) can die on screen, there are guns) while still having a style similar to Disney. All done 100% independently without a studio canning it for no reason or interfering to make it more in line with the trends or demographic. This is gonna be gold.

It's actually pretty damn sad what Disney and cartoon Network has become. They made the most impressive animated shows and now Disney is just spitting out shit remakes of their most classic historical movies. And cartoon network got bought by Discovery closing down their studio and literally canceling or moving every new animated shows to adult swim or Max.

Just checked the funding and the goal for it was at least $125,000… it’s been just 2 days and it’s currently at $728,000?!?!? That’s actually insane, godspeed to everyone helping back this amazing series

I noticed something about Rocky's design. In the pilot he seems to have a chip in his (from our perspective) right ear. However, in this teaser he doesn't. This seems to be before atlas died too, so a while back. I know its a small change, but I wonder what made him get that chip in his ear in the first place. Maybe because he's just wack and got it by accident? I'm not sure. 🤔 Any theories?

There's actually a short comic that explains how he got that chip. He accidentally shot a hole into his ear while being careless with a gun. He is not very good with guns.

It's very jarring seeing Rocky so cute and sweet despite all the misfortune around him after my introduction of him being him laughing maniacally whilst tossing dynamite everywhere

yes!!! the series is based on a comic, one that's been going since 2005! it gives a little more context to what we're going to see in the series, plus the art is gorgeous!!! it's amazing to see how the creators have grown in both their art and storytelling skills. i'd totally recommend checking it out, it's totally free online ^^

I've been reading this comic since 2012 and now the kickstarter will have the chapters beautifully printed in a book. I can't wait!!

I just noticed that in the moment when Mitzi and Atlas's shadows stop in front of Rocky, the colors of the whole scene grow slightly warmer. It's very subtle, but it really does a lot for the mood, the way Mitzi's appearance shines sunlight over the dreary grays. The whole video is very atmospheric!

Not only is it a world that they are building, but it’s one that is actually quite historically accurate. It isn’t just inspired by the prohibition era, it *is* the prohibition era. There are so many specific historic details that you can point out what month the comic starts and around what *day* the pilot episode takes place (probably September 15th or 16th, 1927, as Mitzi is reading about the death of Isadora Duncan when we first see her)
