Lacaton & Vassal: Rothwell Chair Public Lecture - 'Free Space'

Join the University of Sydney’s School of Architecture, Design and Planning for this special public lecture presented by Lacaton & Vassal, 2021 Pritzker Prize Laureates and the Rothwell Program Co-Chairs.
Architecture is about freedom, generosity, pleasure. Large spaces generate an essential feeling of escape and freedom. Large spaces facilitate appropriation, foster relationships within spaces, to allow for pleasurable situations, to encourage relations between people and promote social life. Enlarging does not mean wasting. Enlarging does not mean costing more. It means inventing space for uses and going beyond the norms and standards which reduce the living space.
Prior to the opening of an exhibition at the Tin Sheds Gallery: Lacaton and Vassal, Living in the City, Anne Lacaton and Jean Philippe Vassal will discuss their conception of Free Space, an architectural priority evident in their teaching over three years leading the Inaugural Rothwell Program in Architecture, Design and Planning at the University of Sydney, and highlighted in their work presented in the current exhibition.
This public lecture is made possible through the generous support of alumni Garry and Susan Rothwell.
