Labor government ‘wrongfooted’ by Peter Dutton’s ‘sensible’ nuclear energy policy

The federal Labor government has been “wrongfooted” by Opposition leader Peter Dutton’s sensible nuclear energy policy and is now “running scared”, according to geologist Ian Plimer.
Mr Plimer encouraged Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen to speak with nuclear scientists.
“I don’t think they have been well briefed and I think they are panicking,” he told Sky News host Rita Panahi.

First of all as per news today 9 July Necluer reactors could be up and running in 10 to 12 years in Australia as there are no legal hurdles/treaties to get in the way. It would only need to pass through parliament. Dutton keep gas and coal going domestically until both renewables and Nuclear is up and going giving Australians CHEAP reliable energy rather than bullshit part time weather dependant energy. Dutton would cancer any taxpayers money on feel good bullshit treaties . Dutton would be tough on boarder protection, protecting us from imported violent criminals. Dutton would reduce immigration NOT increase it like Fudd. This would give home grown Aussies a chance to get into the rental/housing market without having to compete with immigrants. Dutton would be tough on crime, not have a softly, softly approach like Labor ( especially here in Woketoria where that stupid lefty socialist Jacinta Allen would rather turn the other way and pretend we don't have a youth crime crises because it might offend her lefty socialist bleeding heart supporters and cost her votes! Dutton would enshrine 26 January as Australia Day in the constitution and shut up the f--King inner city activists for good! Super Simple stuff. Take a trip out to Beverly or the old Crocker Well site. Perfect spot for a Fuel rod depository. We should stop selling drummed yellowcake. Only fuel rods receipted back to Australia. Adelaide can make concentrators, we just need better Engineers in Government. The Uranium is in the ground out there right now with a natural considerable half life. Rewiring the country has a significant impact on power prices, ties us to China (which maybe Dr Forrest's plan given the natural connection to China), and can not enable industrial parks that require big energy.

@@thefleecer3673 Agreed. Anything with a EROEI lower than 6 is economically unviable in an industrialised economy. Wind and solar sit around 2-3 on that scale. New nuclear is 115. Hydro is about 70. Wind and solar are a technological step backwards from fossil fuels and will be economic suicide.

  • @johnwoodrow8769

The debate needs to be trimmed down to its fundamental issue. Wind and solar must be firmed up be some technology. That can only be hydro, gas, coal, or nuclear (anything else is just childish nonsense). Hydro can simple be ruled out as we don't have the dams. Coal isn't going to fly for purely political reasons. So that just leaves gas or nuclear. Greens, pick one or combination from those two Everything else is a total distraction.

If the emissions go up the chimney, then the emissions can be removed hydrostatically. Power stations are already doing that - it just needs to be more efficiently.
