Labor disregards renewable costings and slams Opposition’s nuclear ‘cost of transition’
Sky News host Paul Murray says Labor are “clutching at their pearls” over the Opposition’s nuclear push and detailing the cost of transitions.
“Goodness me, the political establishment, clutching at their pearls they have been,” he said.
“To now come out and say the Liberal policy of not going renewables exclusively, well, there will be too much of a cost in that transition, the same cost of transition they … lied about in 2022.”

@@dfor50 The problem is, that both sides have neglected the power stations for so long. Like our refineries before they were shut down because they are still full of asbestos. Let's fix what we have first and I agree to building new ones. What most don't understand about running our cars and coal is it is the only thing that is holding back the next Ice age, I have done my own homework on this and the Maths don't lie.

Solar and wind is good for 10-20 years if it doesn’t encounter storms, cyclones, lightning or meteor strikes, bushfires, dust, ash, birdshit or hail in the meantime while also slowly declining in performance, it also requires another 28,000 kms of high voltage grid infrastructure worth billions, and storage in form of $18 billion dollar dams (Abandon Doomed Snowy 2.0) and $1 billion dollar batteries like the one that can power Adelaide for 7 minutes, how many of them do we need to power Australia for 1 day? Nuclear can supply 24/7 high density, stable, reliable power with minimal operational personnel and maintenance for 80-100 years without any of this extra renewables infrastructure. Nuclear can also perform other heating duties as a sideline, desalinate water & create Green Hydrogen, if thats is what you want, energise and improve power hungry steel manufacturing industries, and it will reliably keep the lights on, unlike Blackout Bowen’s trillion dollar Renewables Agenda & waste of money. China has built 2 of the latest design, safe 1600MW thorium reactors for approximately $19 billion dollars over seven years, the first took 5 years & has been operational for over a year and the 2nd to come online in the next year, that is 2 reactors producing 3.2 GW power in 7 years at a cost of $8.5 billion & $10.5 billion. (source: Nuclear for Australia & Australia Nuclear Institute) These new Thorium reactors can reuse up to 95% of nuclear waste from other reactors making it much safer for storage for 2-300 years instead of the thousands it remains active for and have a very small amount of waste for storage anyhow. Seems to me we could have a lot of these with the predicted Trillion dollars of taxpayers money Labor wants to spend in the next 5 years on unreliable, unstable, intermittent solar, wind, dam & grid structures taking up thousands of acres and damaging farming & protected national park areas. Forget net zero & Paris agreement for now and go for nuclear, it’s the clean way forward for a strong energy future we will need to grow more industry.
Ahh penny, the master gaslighter. She’s insufferable
Half done Labor strikes again. Albo is so busy going to events and concerts he doesn't have time to working things out properly. And the leprechaun is busy looking for his renewable pot of gold.
The only investment for Green energy come's from TAX PAYER DOLLARS simple fact.
Net zero is not necessary or wise. Coal and gas should be used by Australia to provide energy until nuclear can replace those aspects of energy provision that it can, with coal, gas and oil providing the rest. Solar might be ok for your private hotwater system but not for a national power grid.
People should factor in when replacement of what has been done becomes necessary.Battery storage is dangerous and batteries don’t last a long time, windmills are no different.Coal was consistent as is nuclear. All in all cheaper.

It appears the cartoonist for the Sydney Morning Herald also work for Labor and have the same faith in their Sun and Wind "GODS".
This so called wind station off NSW south coast will take as long as building a nuclear power station. The nuclear will generate power 24/7, but wind turbines are limited to a minimum & maximum wind speed, Therefor unable to produce full power at 100% of the time all the time. where nuclear can.

They want to pollute the Victorian coast with another multi billion project of another 100 offshore windmills that will be just as useless, as if Victoria isn’t a Broken enough state now as they cast a new bronze statue of their beloved Dan Andrew’s and commemorate him the highest honour of Australia. Victoria couldn’t afford Formula 1 racing, the Games, a hospital with a budget blowout and the new train system has blown the budget out from 42 billion to 240 billion and Snowy 2 has gone from 2 billion to estimated 12 -18 billion getting stuck again in rock 120 meters from its last bogging for four years. No wonder everyone wants to get out of Victoria.

Dont forget while we may be the 2nd greenest country on the planet, we actullay contribute to a very large percent of total global emissions by giving away most of our gas (for free) and millions of tonnes of coal, gas & oil which is then blown off into the atmosphere as CO2. Makes the Green Agenda seem somewhat hypocritical as we are the main Drug Dealers of the Climate Crime, but I guess it is okay to sell of our resources to other CO2 Junkies if we ban its use in our own back yard, meanwhile cost of power and living skyrocket, what a bad joke.
Onya Kylie, Penny, You both know all about it!!! 😅😅😅😅 That’s why Dutton has you all running scared!!
Labour just spent 1 billion dollars on a US company and NDIS shorten man for job, yep in since inception and still a major stuff up. Go go Albo your team is doing a stellar job
The drama keeps going.
The illusion of choice, they both serve the same master.
The so called renewables are not so green. We know this! The Liberals have to look after our farmers. Labor has no desire to look after our country folk. We need to keep our coal power stations going. Penny Wong needs to go.
It's climate action that has caused the price of absolutely everything to go up . Renewable energy may be cheap once hundreds of billions are spent to set it up but until then we pay heavily and the renewables all have a use by date so the spending will never stop .Before they even finish installing they'll be replacing worn out units ,If Australia has any hope in the future the Labor party has to go .

Risks are assessed on the basis of likelihood and potential consequences. What are the potential consequences of Australia not meeting the 2030 emissions target ?

Mine in WA just built a huge renewable engineering infrastructure. That's how unreliable renewables are hahaha 😅
Penny Wong , is just Wong,Wong, Wong
She is a disgrace for supporting hamas
There are HUGE holes in Labor’s costings for renewables You have to include grid modifications… which they are not … This will price renewables right out of the market Also to replace base load with renewables you need 7 to 9 times the capacity for renewables to do the same job … This alone means their costings need to be 7 to 9 times their costed price…. This obviously prices them WAY higher My request is they tell the TRUTH in the real costs
Stuff that net zero emissions and it's funny it's all right to not down trees for solar panels and wind farms but it's not all right to cat down trees for building like houses and other buildings products back not so long ago we use have a thin call logging trees and they repainted trees
Wong must go, we had enough
Australia can always ask how much other countries have paid for nuclear reactors but they cant ask how much any country has paid to convert to solar and wind only because no country has done that for good reason .. lets just be sensible and reject Labor's bs for good.
Big of SkyNotNews to finally slip the word opinion in at the start of their little video!!...but it should be on the tail of their brand. SkyOpinion. Get the news right out of there!!!🤣🤣
Penny Wrong
As a Canadian who lives downwind from SEVERAL Cdn nuclear plants - I can state that nuclear power is NOT as carbon free as various people want to claim - this is due to the MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF EXCAVATION AND THEN THE HUGE AMOUNTS OF CONCRETE NEEDED to store the surprisingly LARGE AMOUNTS of nuclear waste - which can included everything from clip boards and tape measures up to assorted piping and safety gear as well as spent fuel rods, plus large quantities of Tritium - the cooling fluid used to regulate the atomic reaction that actually generates the steam to power the generators............... and of course all that contaminated waste NEEDS TO BE HAULED BY DIESEL TRUCKS to the disposal sites - which in Canada happen to be about 150 MILES from where the nuclear reactors are sited......................................... having aid these things - nuclear power is DEFINITELY CHEAPER AND CLEANER than burning coal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for those selling solar and wind power - they are simply POORLY SKILLED AND NOT SO SLICK SALESPEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Renewables are costly JUNK POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
😂 it will take 20 year to build power plant in Australia, but I wonder why we produce most coal and gas but most expensive electricity in the world because power grid is private own
Paul, you persist in promoting the idea that the only viable minority government would be a Labor/Greens coalition (perhaps at Rupert's behest?), but what about an LNP/Other coalition? I understand your point. However, it's crucial for the public to recognize that corruption permeates all levels of government, and we require at least one term to apprehend the wrongdoers and permanently seal any loopholes. Following an overhaul of the AEC, a democratically elected party could return to a parliament that is more transparent, digitized, and cleansed. Sometimes, things must be broken before they can be mended.🤠
