Labor disregards renewable costings and slams Opposition’s nuclear ‘cost of transition’

Sky News host Paul Murray says Labor are “clutching at their pearls” over the Opposition’s nuclear push and detailing the cost of transitions.
“Goodness me, the political establishment, clutching at their pearls they have been,” he said.
“To now come out and say the Liberal policy of not going renewables exclusively, well, there will be too much of a cost in that transition, the same cost of transition they … lied about in 2022.”

@@dfor50 The problem is, that both sides have neglected the power stations for so long. Like our refineries before they were shut down because they are still full of asbestos. Let's fix what we have first and I agree to building new ones. What most don't understand about running our cars and coal is it is the only thing that is holding back the next Ice age, I have done my own homework on this and the Maths don't lie.

Solar and wind is good for 10-20 years if it doesn’t encounter storms, cyclones, lightning or meteor strikes, bushfires, dust, ash, birdshit or hail in the meantime while also slowly declining in performance, it also requires another 28,000 kms of high voltage grid infrastructure worth billions, and storage in form of $18 billion dollar dams (Abandon Doomed Snowy 2.0) and $1 billion dollar batteries like the one that can power Adelaide for 7 minutes, how many of them do we need to power Australia for 1 day? Nuclear can supply 24/7 high density, stable, reliable power with minimal operational personnel and maintenance for 80-100 years without any of this extra renewables infrastructure. Nuclear can also perform other heating duties as a sideline, desalinate water & create Green Hydrogen, if thats is what you want, energise and improve power hungry steel manufacturing industries, and it will reliably keep the lights on, unlike Blackout Bowen’s trillion dollar Renewables Agenda & waste of money. China has built 2 of the latest design, safe 1600MW thorium reactors for approximately $19 billion dollars over seven years, the first took 5 years & has been operational for over a year and the 2nd to come online in the next year, that is 2 reactors producing 3.2 GW power in 7 years at a cost of $8.5 billion & $10.5 billion. (source: Nuclear for Australia & Australia Nuclear Institute) These new Thorium reactors can reuse up to 95% of nuclear waste from other reactors making it much safer for storage for 2-300 years instead of the thousands it remains active for and have a very small amount of waste for storage anyhow. Seems to me we could have a lot of these with the predicted Trillion dollars of taxpayers money Labor wants to spend in the next 5 years on unreliable, unstable, intermittent solar, wind, dam & grid structures taking up thousands of acres and damaging farming & protected national park areas. Forget net zero & Paris agreement for now and go for nuclear, it’s the clean way forward for a strong energy future we will need to grow more industry.

Net zero is not necessary or wise. Coal and gas should be used by Australia to provide energy until nuclear can replace those aspects of energy provision that it can, with coal, gas and oil providing the rest. Solar might be ok for your private hotwater system but not for a national power grid.

They want to pollute the Victorian coast with another multi billion project of another 100 offshore windmills that will be just as useless, as if Victoria isn’t a Broken enough state now as they cast a new bronze statue of their beloved Dan Andrew’s and commemorate him the highest honour of Australia. Victoria couldn’t afford Formula 1 racing, the Games, a hospital with a budget blowout and the new train system has blown the budget out from 42 billion to 240 billion and Snowy 2 has gone from 2 billion to estimated 12 -18 billion getting stuck again in rock 120 meters from its last bogging for four years. No wonder everyone wants to get out of Victoria.

Dont forget while we may be the 2nd greenest country on the planet, we actullay contribute to a very large percent of total global emissions by giving away most of our gas (for free) and millions of tonnes of coal, gas & oil which is then blown off into the atmosphere as CO2. Makes the Green Agenda seem somewhat hypocritical as we are the main Drug Dealers of the Climate Crime, but I guess it is okay to sell of our resources to other CO2 Junkies if we ban its use in our own back yard, meanwhile cost of power and living skyrocket, what a bad joke.

This obviously prices them WAY higher My request is they tell the TRUTH in the real costs

As a Canadian who lives downwind from SEVERAL Cdn nuclear plants - I can state that nuclear power is NOT as carbon free as various people want to claim - this is due to the MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF EXCAVATION AND THEN THE HUGE AMOUNTS OF CONCRETE NEEDED to store the surprisingly LARGE AMOUNTS of nuclear waste - which can included everything from clip boards and tape measures up to assorted piping and safety gear as well as spent fuel rods, plus large quantities of Tritium - the cooling fluid used to regulate the atomic reaction that actually generates the steam to power the generators............... and of course all that contaminated waste NEEDS TO BE HAULED BY DIESEL TRUCKS to the disposal sites - which in Canada happen to be about 150 MILES from where the nuclear reactors are sited......................................... having aid these things - nuclear power is DEFINITELY CHEAPER AND CLEANER than burning coal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As for those selling solar and wind power - they are simply POORLY SKILLED AND NOT SO SLICK SALESPEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Renewables are costly JUNK POWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul, you persist in promoting the idea that the only viable minority government would be a Labor/Greens coalition (perhaps at Rupert's behest?), but what about an LNP/Other coalition? I understand your point. However, it's crucial for the public to recognize that corruption permeates all levels of government, and we require at least one term to apprehend the wrongdoers and permanently seal any loopholes. Following an overhaul of the AEC, a democratically elected party could return to a parliament that is more transparent, digitized, and cleansed. Sometimes, things must be broken before they can be mended.🤠
