I love this labor and delivery story because nothing goes the way we plan. I planned no induction, no epidural, no formula. And ended up having to do all three! Awww I got emotional with you at the end. I completely understand in the South Asian culture there's lots of weird rules after birth as well and I kept bumping heads with my mom and mom in law. It's not fun but sometimes for your own sanity, setting ground rules is a must. He's definitely worth all the pain and stress. And now he's a chunky toddler! Time flies ❤️

in my Egyptian culture, when my elder sister gave birth to her baby boy, I was told not to get close to her or touch the baby because I was having my period Mom claimed that doing so would make her infertile and she will have no more children !!! I was amazed by that especially because Mom was a science major isn't that frustrating?!

I really enjoyed it but you do see all kinds of interesting cultural things! As a nurse it's (usually, depending on the request) easy to accommodate cultural traditions but I can't imagine how hard that would be to accommodate differing opinions within your own family! Best Labor and Delivery story!!!😁 I was in labor for 72hrs😬. I stayed in the hospital for three days because my son wasn't latching on either until I used the nipple shield. In our culture my mom says we "have to" eat a lot of cheese to lactate🙄 (I doubt it) there's a few other things she said, but honestly I wasn't listening I was too busy staring at my baby😍 Thanks for sharing your story! When my third was born the cord was around his neck THREE TIMES! The Doctor said he was shocked I pushed him out and I didn’t have to have an emergency csection. He was completely purple when he came out! And I know how you feel with the nursing struggle and “Mom frustration” I went through both! I am binge watching your channel now ❤️ I love it!

I know how you feel about the stress! I am starting medical school in the fall and have already found a ton of things to stress out about like finding a place to live and choosing a computer, which are small things compared to what I know your life is like!

Congratulations! Another thing you can do aside from the fenugreek is eat Cheerios or oatmeal as oats are a galactagogue and will help with milk production. And the fun thing about fenugreek is it'll make you smell like maple syrup when it's working. I got a kick out of that. My little one isn't so little anymore (she just turned ten), but it's the best ride you'll ever take. 😃😃😃

My mom told me LITERALLY all the same things and we're Mexican. She also said that I couldn't leave the house for 40 days. I didn't listen to a single thing she said and I was fine lol. It's really hard especially when your hormones are all over the place. & I also hope your journey through residency and, of course, motherhood goes great! You'll get the hang of things ❤️❤️

Awww, my mom is the same way. With my first daughter she told me i need to be on bed rest for 40 days, not go outside and let the breeze hit me and all sorts of crazy stuff. I am now expexting my second child and this time I am a labor and delivery nurse so i feel like I have more knowledge. Things will definitely be different for me this time like not having her during the delivery and so forth and I just hope she doesn't get upset. I was just diagnosed with gestational diabetes and that's how I found your channel. Love your videos. Congratulations on your beautiful baby boy!!!

Hi. I'm from the Navajo Native American culture. When a woman is pregnant she cannot tie anything in a tight knot for fear of the baby's umbilical cord being wrapped around the baby's neck. If the woman has to tie anything, it has to be able to untie. Just a fun fact. Glad your son is okay.

I'm from northern Pakistan and in my culture we also have a lot of weird post-birth practices like not eating certain foods (carrots, oranges, cucumbers) and only having broth soups for the first 2 weeks. They also have this homemade medicine that's a combo of dried fruits and powdered roots from a specific plant that supposedly helps your body heal better. I thought my culture was the only one with with all these extra practices haha. Wish you and your family all the best and congrats on graduating! ❤
