Insects and sawdust are a lot healthier than GMO soy that has sucked up a lot of insecticide or herbicides. And because of that it is also safer than just about any processed food that contains soy bean oil. Before I banned sawdust, I would ban insecticides, herbicides and their decay chemicals.

The only logical reason I can see for this, rather than politicians selling out to the beef industry, is that maybe the lab grown meat has to identify itself in the fine print, and a lot of the older residents in Florida have trouble reading the fine print.

I'm dubious about the supposed "benefits" of lab-grown meat. That said, I'm against this type of heavy-handed behavior from the government on general principles.

But the idea of lab grown meat is so that not only that it’s a clean meat to eat, in contrast for example a live stock chicken that was modified to grow more meat in their body unnaturally and were injected with antibiotics etc, but also it reduces carbon emissions because it’s not alive. Same goes with lab grown fish meat. You don’t even have to worry about consuming traces of mercury or pollution, in contrast to Canada’s salmon farms were putting them closely together causes them to receive viruses which farmers has to resort to putting antibiotics etc. inside them.

I seriously doubt that we're saving much, if anything, in the way of carbon emissions by growing meat in a lab. As for the supposed health benefits, I'll wait for them to gather more data before I believe it out of hand. I doubt that meat grown in a lab doesn't have drawbacks somewhere compared to regular meat. The human body has adapted to proteins from animals; who can say for certain that protein from a petri dish won't cause problems?

A cultivated meat industry has the theoretical capability to outstrip traditional means of meat production. You might say it’ll cost millions of jobs but at the end of the day we’re talking about about a cheap and reliable source of food. I don’t desire to harm anyone’s business. On the other hand, what make these ranchers feel so entitled that they think we need to protect their business’s? I was in construction during the 08 crash when the banks and auto industry got bailed out. Construction stopped hard and we were left to figure out how to survive. My great grandfather owned a buggy manufacturing company and the auto industry killed it, yet here we are 🤷🏽‍♂️

If you had cancer, would you not get chemotherapy because its FDA approved? This is ridiculous since lab grown meat is down to the molecule the same as chicken and doesnt require cruel factory farming and you can get any type of meat cheaper.

Please, they always say it’s “safe” 80 years later a 1-800 class action rolls across the screen. I hope other states ban it too. I don’t believe for one minute it’s safe when a dollar will make them say whatever they think will get sales and approval.

Manufacturing meat in a Lab is harmful in the long run. Because as consumers, we don’t feel the effects until 20 to 30 years in the future. And then we’ll be seeing those ads on tv, “if you xyz and have eaten said product, you may entitled to financial compensation”

Who would vote to see farmers go out of business, then willingly go to a restaurant and order lab-grown meat? How do we know lab-grown meat is safe? Lab rats aren't even safe to test drugs on for reasons I couldn't explain, but it relates to the creatures' DNA and their sterilized form of reproduction. DNA is still necessary for the protein cells to grow, but it's probably absent from the final product, so cancer isn't exactly what I'm worried about. I'm worried about the notion that the same entity that approved products like Zantac and Proactiv, the former of which was suspended from the market, and the latter of which had remarkable side effects. So, we're allowing the same peer-reviewed systems that have produced destruction in the past, albeit to an apt end, but in our food? A person seeing this leap of confidence, be he republican, Christian, atheist, or computer scientist all notwithstanding, is definitively not coming from a position of ignorance when he states that he has reservations about eating chicken grown in a lab. I imagine that humanity is at least another century away from perfecting this technology, and I don't believe I wish to be one of the ones to miss that century because I chose to eat something that would kill me eventually. Humanity didn't even understand that radioactive materials were harmful until federal personnel and unsuspecting populaces began dropping-dead from cancer. If you trust your government _that_ much, then you can be the one to eat the lab-grown meat, and I will be the one to pray for you night and day. This has not been the response of an ignorant person.

100% government needs to get out of the way on this one and allow free competition. They either trust the FDA or they don't. If the FDA can't be trusted to make food safe, then why do they even exist?

Ok but doing animal husbandry in Florida is a high risk venture to begin with. Banning a start up industry is less than a do nothing bill when you don't address the actual issues.

Meanwhile everyone is ignoring that lab grown meat means we could live in a world where a) so much valuable land isn't taken up by livestock, and b) the amount of methane let out into the atmosphere greatly decreases, much to the benefit of literally everyone... Yes, I know it would affect the meat industry, farmers, etc. No, I do not care. Industries sometimes have to make large shifts in order for progress to be made, and this shift in the industry is something they should be able to see coming a mile away. They can adapt to the evolving market if they want to stay afloat. That's what everyone else has to do! Additionally, there's likely no strange "chemicals" in this meat, or anything fundamentally wrong with it. The IDEA of eating lab-grown things just triggers disgust because we know where it comes from and have ingrained biases about what is actually in laboratories, most of it being untrue. You don't wanna know where a lot of your food comes from right now! Food companies do things you have no idea about, and modern meat farmers DO pump those animals full of drugs and hormones. I bet the majority of people don't even understand what all of the ingredients actually are in a lot of their food. It's early in the process, but if eventually we can have meat that looks, smells, tastes, and feels like meat, being the EXACT SAME on a molecular level as a real cut of meat, I don't care if its from an animal or not.
