    Thanks for the info. I will continue to purchase lab grown diamonds as they are essentially the same as mined diamonds. However there is not the exploitation of the native miners when purchasing natural diamonds and if to the naked eye they are indistinguishable from natural diamonds, i will be happier knowing that I’m not exploiting anyone to wear lab grown diamonds. I’m sure there are many that feel the same way.

    Good ol' alchemy, alive and well in the modern age - Julia is a modern day alchemist and I can tell, she loves her work. She was a great guest, make sure to bring her back for a future video. We still have a long way to go, as an advancing civilization but we wouldn't be where we are, without synthetic, lab grown diamonds. Plain and simple. We wouldn't be able to do countless operations without diamond-tipped or diamond-coated drills and saws. As far as jewelry goes, there's a place for naturally occurring stones and for lab-grown stones. If you want to dish out for the natural diamond from quality source (i.e. specific country or mining co. ), then you do, just that. If you want the next best thing (or better), you go with lab-grown. I don't wear jewelry but I'm fascinated by all of technically specific thing's about gemstones and minerals, how they are made, how they are used, how we can synthesize them for industrial use - stuff like that. Looks pretty when you set it in a ring, too 😛

    WOW. And so much fun. So, if methane can be transformed to diamond is that a partial solution for too much methane in the atmosphere? (Of course, you still have to capture it....) And a steam bath can relax laboratory diamonds from brown to colorless. (If I understood it) This is all so INTERESTING!!!!! So glad I found your channel. Keep it coming!

  • @TheGemAcademy

    @TheGemAcademy

    Жыл бұрын

    Great thought! There's lots of extra things to know here... often the methane used is methane that's been captured as a biproduct from burning fossil fuels... so in a way this is could be considered using the biproduct (somewhat sustainable?) also in the chamber ... 99% of the is actually hydrogen. Typically this is gained by burning fossil fuels (not sustainable). There is a way to get sustainable hydrogen (but only 5% of industrial hydrogen is obtained this was so a producer must purposely seek it if they want this ingredient to be sustainable) There is a couple of companies that try to make an additional aspect to sustainability by using CO2 captured from the air as the carbon source instead of methane (just like your idea!). From the dozens of CVD producers I know of - two do this. Generally speaking, unless a crazy effort is put into sustainable ingredients and energy sources, mass production of laboratory-grown diamonds (and of almost all products) has an environmental cost. Some producers offset any carbon footprint this to become more sustainable or even carbon neutral. Some do not.

    And regarding colour... HPHT can be grown as colourless (not discussed in video) most are brown this colour and are beautiful and bright - DEF equivalent! CVD can be grown as colourless too... but most often are grown brown and treated. Not in a steam bath... but actually either in the HPHT apparatus... we're talking 2000 degrees C with 5-6 GPa of pressure!! Or heated in a vacuum (CVD growth chamber) for a whilst to realign the structure removing the brown colour :)

    Great video where we learnt a lot about Lab made diamonds. We also learnt that Rebecca has recently got engaged, Congrats. My only slight problem was that the DoF on the camera lens was to shallow, and therefore put Julia out of sharp focus throughout the video.

    Very interesting info, thanks for the video. Earth-grown diamonds are well... more romantic. I'll stick to my second-hand old mine cut diamond ring. It may not be perfect but that's not the point. Buy what you like and what you can afford though, right? It's a personal thing.

    Fabulous Episode 👏 Two great hosts made for a spectacular show! Love the energy of both the specimens and the hosts. This was so cool to see and hear about real vs lab grown. The recipients who take Julia’s course at The Gem Academy are so lucky to have her as their teacher 🫶. Absolutely loved it! This is definitely my favorite episode of the channel to date. Spectacular vibe between the hosts. Thanks so much for sharing. I appreciate all the hard work that goes into making these episodes for the channel. Stay Crystal 💫 Mari

    Thanks for this informative video. I still prefer natural diamond and I buy antique or vintage more for sustainability. Not sure about this whole lab created diamond thing, it just makes it less special and I can get an antique one for the same price of lab created.

    Would grade HPHT diamonds test as moissanite on diamond tester? I purchased a Color E, VVS2, Excellent Cut (GIA Certified) 2.2 carat diamond and I'm very curious to know if it would test positive on Diamond Tester. From research, I read that it would have to be more color, past G Range to test as moissanite, but wanted your opinion! Thanks

  • @AmerPridexxx

    You might have a natural earth diamond that was treated with HPHT process (which enhances the color and clarity), rather than a seed grown HPHT (GIA report would have an asterisk next to color grade with note saying enhanced) ❤ Added: Scanners/testers are available to screen for enhancement treatment but I would guess most jewelers don't have these machines

    @@AshishLalani Form what I understand from watching the experts videos and reading articles: Some lab diamonds can test as mossanite depending on how they were grown (or even a bad tester), however the diamond properties will still be diamond (mossanite is less hard and double refractive, and made with different component). It should be noted that on rare occasions even natural/earth untreated diamonds can test as moissanite, too.

    I believe that the Australian Argyle diamond mine is the only place in the world that produces pink diamonds. Sadly the mine has now closed down so the laboratory grown diamonds may one day be the only way to get a pink diamond.

    With terminology,i guess the consumer understanding is very important as sellers often wish to create “ambiguity” without being outright fraudulent. For example on exactly the same site there are two tennis bracelet listings. 1. Tennis bracelet in 925 silver with cubic zerconia $325 2. Tennis bracelet in 925 silver with simulated diamonds. $750 They are both CZ’s🤷🏼‍♂️

    Hi there! I am a big fan of lab diamonds. Thanks for sharing the video. I think they are a better investment than ground diamonds. The differences between the two can be slight or a lot, depending on how they were made. The geometry of light can be seen as perfect on lab diamonds more than ground diamonds. However, there are perfect to poor quality on either one. But, the reasoning is, diamonds shouldn't be treated like they are crystal orbs. Poor, too poor, but gemstones are always beautiful to look at.
