Beautifully sung. Eva-Marie Westbrook is such a lovely singer, always gives a splendid performance. I would love to see much more of her.

I sang this as part of the chorus with the Canadian Opera Company and we processed from up stage,and if there is a God, then we sang his chorus.........

Canta mirando hacia adelante, y la voz casi que no se aprecia cuando interviene el coro o la orquesta hace un crescendo, Montserrat Caballe la cantó de espaldas al público y se aprecia su voz de una manera Fantástica!!!.... que pasa con la técnica de los nuevos cantantes???

Even in this gender-awareness era we should have read 2 x she in your comment. But that's a mere language issue As to the supposed issue in your comment: from my life experience and from this rendition there was nor is any negative impact by the soprano singing face forward.

Terrible with an exclamation mark. My goodness, I have listened to this Eva Maria rendition over and over again and strangely it is only getting better each time. Wagnerian voice I read somewhere in the comments here above. Spot on.

André Rieu with his orchestra was just another popular performer of this aria. He gets my credits by bringing classical music to the masses which is a noble thing these days. Period.

Those attempts at pp were like nails on a chalkboard.

Very inferior to the singers of the previous generation. Not good singing in this music.

I don't find anything beautiful in this performance. No pianissimos, just wobble here and there. Very ugly sung without any emotions or musicality. Why bother ?

Eva-Maria Westbroek is a renown and highly respected singer. Respected world wide. It's a matter of taste of course, but how can you say this is ugly sung by one of the most famous soprano's world wide?

Even the greatest singers had roles that did not suit them. I would not call Eva-Maria Westbroek a great singer, but on German repertoire she used to sound better. This is all wobble and no pianissimos at all.....She seems to have no feeling for the Italian text. These are all facts, regardless of how famous she is.

I totally agree with you - I think this performance is bad, emotionless, like she sings straight from the paper, hollow. It is hard to convince others of this, maybe because of the beauty the music of Verdi here still holds. When you compare it with other sopranos performing this piece, the contrast becomes very clear.

Sorry but she doesn't know how to sing this. Is a pitty that some people, just had enough with this, and this is way opera is dead.

That many people with that many opinions. Can you imagine that this rendition is one of my favourites? When it's not for Eva-Maria Westbroek, it surely is for the most impressive choirs on this so far.

Su vibrato esta fuera de control, y sus vocales no son iguales, entonces el resultado final es un canto sin igualdad. Muy bueba puesta, mal cantada.

Absolutely not. Purism is an arbitrary feature brought in by the musically over-educated but musi-cultural innocents. Now go back and consider this an Italian opera where choral punctuality is much loose and folky. Go listen any Italian opera choir for example almost any "Va Pensiero".
