En ouvrant son opéra par un prélude pour cordes d’une économie de moyens inédite, Verdi affirmait en 1853 sa volonté de bousculer les conventions et les normes. Là n’est pas la moindre des radicalités de son oeuvre : sa « Traviata » met implacablement à nu la violence d’une société qui prône la jouissance matérielle et finit par sacrifier une innocente victime sur l’autel de la morale bourgeoise. Simon Stone aime travailler au corps à corps les pièces du répertoire pour les entraîner vers des territoires plus intimes. Ce metteur en scène, qui compte parmi les plus remarqués au théâtre aujourd’hui, fait ses débuts très attendus à l’Opéra national de Paris.

I'm not black but i am soo proud of the fact they put on the scene a black woman. She is beautiful and talented, that's all the important. A black Hermione is very ok too.

The champagne-glass tower is one of those great ideas in theory that should nonetheless be scrapped at the first rehearsal. This brindisi is surely the essence of freedom and abandon, yet here is the poor tenor, perched on top of a ladder, having to concentrate on pouring the champagne where it needs to go.

'poor tenor'? Benjamin Bernheim, the Canadian tenor who studied at conservatory and has made a career as a Lyric tenor?

Et que dire de la mise en scène. Depoussieree. Rafraîchissant te non conformiste. J ai adoré et recommande vivement cette production qui demythifie l opera Un immense plaisir pour moi
Tout simplement GENIAL ! beaucoup de classe et de modernité. L'Opéra sait vivre avec son époque^^

Great production, though this scene is dull. I'm surprised they didn't use any symbols of social media. At least the singing is wonderful.

Tout simplement génial ! D'habitude je préfère la mise en scène plus classique beaucoup plus riche. Mais la je dois je dois dire que je suis carrément bluffé.

The quoir was too close to the solists, you could barely hear them. But with that tenor, not a big loss ;)

Claire-lise Bouton Il n’y a plus de décors j’ai l’impression ! Même les Indes galantes étaient avec très peu de décors. C’est dommage 😞

Staging is awful
Très bien chanté, mais décors nuls ainsi que les costumes. La Traviata avec ces costumes et décors modernes une honte 😡😡😡

You must be deaf because she has an amazing not just her stop being racist because this is your disease.
Entertainment is about beauty. That's what Opera is, entertainment. Forms of entertainment that fail to optimize for beauty become victims of cultural Darwinism. And Opera has been on the brink for quite some time. That's why do you think female gymnasts and figure skaters wear leotards? The males seem to be able to move just find in pants. That which is not optimized for it's niche dies. And good riddance, for it dies to be replaced by a more adaptive version. I like to see them adapting. Now this lovely African queen needs to tone up a bit in the lower mid section so she can look as good as she sounds, and in less gaudy and discombobulated looking outfits, and they'll have a higher potential for commercialization. And that would be a good thing for everyone involved, including the audience. But it is lovely, as is. It's just not optimized to captivate the world.
