Thanks for this in-depth review. I wear a US size 10.5 street/running shoe and ended up with a EUR 40.5 (US size 8) in these in order to get a nice tight solid fit.

Russell Frame thank you - so refreshing to hear as I also went down 2.5 US sizes. Just in the process of wearing them in and was starting to second guess myself with this huge size decrease!

I'm just starting out climbing (indoor), and bought these under the recommendation of the guy at the store. I didn't want to wear a loaner pair of shoes from my local gym again! Glad these have served you well, gives me hope for mine.

Looking through REI's offered shoes, I came across the La Sportiva Tarantulace. Now that I have seen this great Review, I am going with this shoe. Thank You!

Up Date; I bought these shews, but I would have to buy two pair to get the right fit. My feet are two different sizes. Since LaSportivs won't sell split sizes I took them back and got a pair from Evolve.

Laochri sorry to here that, I haven't run into that problem yet specifically with LaSportiva sizing issues. I have had issues with Evolve because I,m in between a 10 and 10.5 in there sizing...To small or way to big! I guess that is why we have other options lol! Thanks for the update

This video rounds up on all beginner topics. Thanks! I wear a street size 12 (US) and its been a month that I am climbing now. I have been using rental shoes till now and a size 13 is a comfortable fit (w/socks). I see that many climbers don't wear socks and online forums says that socks might cause your foot to slip inside the shoe. I was planning to buy this shoe online, after watching this video, buying from a REI store after trying them on seems to a preferred choice. I have a Morton's foot and it is more prominent on the right foot. My second toe squishes in a size 12 or even q 12.5. Any suggestions on shoe sizing? FYI, its been 5 years and it still costs $80.

Yeah, I would recommend that you go to a store and try them on..without socks! Socks make it hard to feel toe placement and can make your feet move around. Yes, they will smell but you can always clean them or spray anti-fungal in the shoe. The leather will be tight at first but will stretch out over time(5 or so trips to the gym). It shouldn't matter that your big toe is smaller, your toes should be curled when in the shoe making it hard to wiggle your toes; this will give you optimal use of you feet placement. #1 rule...FEET ARE EVERYTHING!!! Remember even the best climbers started some where..Good luck out there and climb hard!

Leather is quite nice as inside lining. Comfortable/ soft and pretty natural feel. Mine also Donnie smell at all...

I felt that after 4 months of hard climbing these shoes stretch more than I wanted them to and the sole structure becomes naturally less stiff.

True... they are very flexy and after a while I needed a new tighter pair. Downforce is also almost not existent

Juan David Fernández thanks for watching, I really appreciate you taking my opinion. I try to give an honest opinion every chance that I get because if it were me I would want to know all the truth and facts! I try to promote a "no more BS brand myopic" review policy.

I've been climbing in my Tarantulace's for over 2 years now. I love the fit. But I just got holes through the toes, all the way through. I just bought La Sportiva Solution and my first route made me want my Taratulace's back.... I know this is an old video, but have you had any experience switching shoes on the same routes?

Solutions are really advanced shoes that are very downturned... you probably want an intermediate level shoe like a Katana or a Finale with less extreme fit.

Hey Gearholic.. wonderful review man.. honest most of all.. i climb some and am looking at buying these.. Issue is the sizing.. i rent these in my climbing gym and a size 9 (US) is loose (8.5 is ok but i can do with 8).. problem is these shoes have been rented for a bit to others too and would have stretched mostly (cant be too sure though).. i get confused about which size to buy hence?.. any help would be greatly appreciated..

Are they designed to wear with or without socks?

Don't wear socks, you need to be able to feel the rock on you toes... and every body will point and laugh at you if you do! If they become unbearably smelly, there is special soap you can hand wash it with.

No, I will probably have them resoled. I don't want to destroy my feet by scraping them on the wall.

@@Gearaholic Is that really an option for these? The price of resoling must be close to the price of a new pair
