I revisited this song after watching the video of quarantined Italians singing this song, trying to add life to the lonely, deserted streets of Siena, trying to make meaning of this lockdown and this viral attack. Goosebumps!

So I do. Very impressiv how the people in Siena react. It is a serious situation, people need courage and solidarity to be strong. when people spontaneously sing such a song in the empty streets, there is this courage. Viva Italia e viva tutti.

Thank you so much! That's an ancient song from Siena, about its marvellous square (the one of the Palio, the famous horserace). Every "contrada" (quarter) of the town adapts the lyrics. Hope we shall meet in Tuscany soon, when this crap will be done! Aim high!

Thanks... who knows? Often, when we play in concerts and the audience is composed by foreign people, we use to tranlate "live" some lyrics, but that works very very good for funny songs, much more than for the "sentimental" ones...

@@lancasterpictures6951, we know the tune as a folk melody, but we didn't get deeper about that: we learnt it by listening in Siena (everyone over there sings it, because it'a sort of hymn of the town and very related to the Palio, the amazing horserace they do twice a year, in July 2nd and August 16th) and for sure is ancient, but we got no other clues about that. Sorry :)
