La Palma volcano: Lava "tsunami" gushes down hillside after overflowing main cone

Video posted from The Canary Islands Volcanology Institute shows what it described as a lava "tsunami” pouring down the Cumbre Vieja volcano on La Palma, Spain after it overflowed from its main cone on Thursday.
Copernicus EMS said 6,800 people had been evacuated in total, with lava covering 674 hectares so far.
With no end in sight to the eruption, which is in its fourth week, authorities expected the lava flow to advance to the northwest, beyond the boundary of the evacuated area.

The lava is flowing westwards, just in case anyone is curious. This camera angle is facing approximately NE. The action is north of the Cumbre Vieja National Park, and is about one-third the way up the island. Los Llanos (pronounced ya-nohs) is just a bit north of the east-west line of lava flow.

@@scatteredseedsofhappiness3285 Yeah, I heard that later after this comment. However I believe my point still stands, it is not and has not been a "tsunami" in any sense of the word. To me it's like those headlines or sound byte of "It looks like a warzone, or a bomb went off". The hyperbole grabs attention, yet it can misinform or even detract from the facts at hand. That's my problem with it. Especially when this story only gained so much attention so quickly because of the scientific studies that have been done on La Palma that, in laymen's terms, say that a volcano could cause a landslide that causes a mega-tsunami.

This Canary Island on 🌋 La Palma, (I've been watching almost a month - it's been active for 30 days) is incredible (true sense of word.) The most RECENT eruption in 1971 was 1/3 the size in terms of lava produced. People who have criticized the population on the island for living next to an "active volcano " are nasty know-it-alls. It's predicted that at this point when more lava enters the ocean, with the collapse of the volcano (rock, lava, etc.) Rumors that it will create a MEGA Tsunami are not based on fact and it would only create waves near the Canary Islands Absolutely not the East Coast of the United States as crap social media has said. But lava is now carrying 3 story buildings with it.
