We are often reminded here in Japan to wear a mask if a volcano erupts. The ash in the air is like minute sharp shards of glass and can severely damage your throat and lungs. That reporter saying that he could taste the ash made alarm bells in my head go off like crazy. Even before the pandemic, I have kept a few masks in my car's first aid box for this very reason.

Whenever an active Volcano erupts, geologists often detect it a few days before and send it to the concerned authorities, if the people have to flee after the volcano has erupted then it usually means that the authorities have failed the people Edit: After reading the replies it also seems that people refuse to evacuate until the very last second causing these people to start evacuation when the Volcano has already exploded and the lava is flowing towards them at high speed.

  • @YourMajesty143

Not true. Scientists had been monitoring a build-up of underground magma beneath La Palma for a week before the eruption and were able to warn of a possible eruption, allowing nearly 7,000 people to evacuate. They had detected more than 20,000 earthquakes in an "earthquake swarm" which can indicate a coming eruption. The trouble is convincing people to abandon their belongings and their homes. The ones you're seeing in this video fleeing after the eruption, either stayed behind or went back to grab their cherished items.

So just to make one thing clear to all those "that's what happens when you live in a Vulcan" people. Most of the people living there were BORN there. It's not that easy to be born in a place, grow up there and make a family, and simply move your whole life elsewhere just because there is a Vulcan that has been sleeping for a very big time. It is like saying: some countries of the world are very dangerous, if you get killed is your fault for not leaving them and live elsewhere... Life doesn't work that way. Bebop yeah but if you live next to an active volcano, you can't exactly be surprised when this happens. Its not like living in a crime ridden area. I do feel for those who are losing their home's. However they knew this was a site of volcanic activity. That said I know it's not helping, or makes it any easier. On the Icelandic front i.e volcano in Iceland, I had said many weeks even months ago that there will be consequences to that eruption that's been on going for months. You cannot have all that lava spewing out for months at a time which will leave a void in the mantel or a large space left behind. That has happened NOW , and pressure or lack of pressure on certain plates like this here in Spain has caused a shift and new eruption of a volcano that's been quite for half a century. This eruption also will have profound consequences else where in the world in a very shot period of time .. Either a slip on some tectonic plate or another volcano going off. So now you've heard it on this page here as well.. Don't say you haven't been warned !

@@nikitadubey3502 Perhaps he did so, because the people that lost their home brought it upon themselves. If you look at a drone video montage of the area, most houses are actually vacation spots, time share villas and bungalows with swimming pools, for tourists. They built them, on the side of an active volcano for the view, for profit. The few islanders that live there all year are smart enough not to build that close to the volcano. In other words, they gambled with nature, and lost. So perhaps the reporter is not inclined to celebrate human greed and stupidity? Yes, i realize this must sound harsh. But remember that people settled there by CHOICE! And by choice, chose to ignore the warnings of many volcanologists and geologists. If someone drenched his home in gasoline, would you feel sorry for them when it catches fire?

You don´t give a new name every time the lava exits the mountain on a different side, you know? The name is given to the entire system, not to any individual crater. The reason the lava exits in different spots is due to plate tectonics. In a million years, that volcano will be a mile in to the sea. But it will still be the same volcano, the same magma chamber. Btw, you just made my point. You said : "most of those houses and villas that you mentioned are actually from German and English immigrants" Precisely, those are vacation homes. You don´t move into an island with next to no jobs, unless it is for vacation. And you proved it.

So many people are suffering, they are losing their homes and you blame them when you don't know their circunstances and how the live in the island is. It's so disgusting and harmful to read this kind of comments when we are seeing people that are devasted because they were living there for generations, a lot of the houses were from their grandparents and parents. A lot of people worked so hard for years and years for having their homes and give them to their children. We need more empathy instead of people pointing their fingers with situations they are no living and they are no suffering. What is the spirit of this comments? Do you feel superior?
