The truth is they were not in Love with each other. Emma Stone's character was Sexually attracted to him. Ryan's Character he had real issues connecting with people, especially with women. They were not ever going to be married. They really had nothing but struggling with their careers in common. Emma she did not ever like Jazz. She was Sexually attracted to him and wanted him that way. The ending was perfect. Think about it they both made the choice not to contact each other for 5 years. If they were in Love they would have stayed together. Ryan's Character was not married because he cannot connect on that level with a woman.

JazzKeyboardist1 Actually, this movie shows LA sucks. Vapid Hollywood industry worried about making a buck more.than art. A music industry lost it its own "fusion" (Samba and Tapas?). Traffic stinks. Everybody drives a Prius. While the movie is mostly about following your dreams and the lengths you have to go to do so, a secondary theme is that LA sucks.

Adam Garcia I'm generally not a big fan of musicals or romantic movies, but I really appreciated this movie for it's storytelling and the musical numbers blend pretty seamlessly into the story. Just watched this for the first time and I'm so glad. 16-year-old me would not have appreciated this masterpiece when it came out. Being in a relationship that lasted over a year since then but mutually came to an end because we both realized we're going in different directions, then having to learn how to deal with each other other's achievements afterwards, and learning to be happy for each other. After going through that myself, this movie hits home and is truly worthy of all of its praise. Masterpiece. Love it. Hit me deep.

La La Land is pure cinematic bliss. Priceless cinematography, beautiful editing, great costumes and sets, tuneful and melodious music along with a fantastic score, masterful foley, ambience sound, sound effects and sound mixing packed with the best dance choreography and phenomenal and meticulously designed hair and makeup. World class acting and skilled oscar worthy performances overall supported by a great director with a vision who has written a wonderfully rhythmic and creatively paced screenplay.

I never understand why studios don't put certain movies (like this) in way more theaters. It has almost 4 million views on KZread. This made $855,000 in only 5 theaters (which is amazing). I know it's going to go nation wide this week, but I am guessing not into 3,000+ theaters. This movie has a ton of buzz and two major stars... if they want this film to be a major hit financially, take a chance and put this movie in as many theaters as possible.
@ZoeHewittHosting
7 жыл бұрын
I think it's so they can do a slow build and gain the word of mouth following since a movie musical is a hard sell even with a well-known property (for instance, "Chicago"). Also, to get into awards season contention there are certain regulations about how many theatres they need to be in by the end of the year. The slow build gives them the qualifiers and then allows them to continue the momentum into the new year vs doing a wide release all at once and disappearing early in the new year when people are starting to vote. It's interesting how much marketing and analytics play a part in the awards season campaigns.
@2taggs2
7 жыл бұрын
I agree with most of what you said. I know musicals these days are a tough sell. But the budget for this film was $30 Million - which is a decent amount... and again, they did up it from 5 theaters to 200 last week... and it still made over $4 million (which is amazing for only 200 theaters). My point is, if it is doing so well despite only in limited theaters, take the chance - don't wait too long for the "build up" - I think it obviously would do well in (at least) 1,000 theaters.
@ZoeHewittHosting
7 жыл бұрын
I think it will definitely be a build and if they do a lot of theatres at once they run the risk of people getting turned off by hearing it's a movie musical. This way they can take word of mouth and convince people who wouldn't otherwise be interested in a musical. (That said, I love musicals myself!) Plus, movies get the biggest bump financially when they win Oscars, so the slow build will probably net them more money (and awards) in the long run. For awards season contention, I believe (but could be wrong-this is off the top of my head) they need 2,000 theatres for two weeks. (As an aside, I did a thorough review of the themes and symbolism and LA locations in the movie on my channel. If it's okay to ask, if you have a sec to take a look, I'd certainly appreciate it!)

Poeskino true it is beautiful. But it's overrated. The singing was bad and barely audible and the songs aren't that memorable wherein you can sing along after the movie except the Audition and City of Stars. Gosh, the film Moana was better in that aspect. And I've read a review that it's mediocre in a sense that why didn't they hire the dreamers or the actual singers/dancers to do the work of Ryan and Emma? But I agree with you, it's beautiful. But after reading that review from I believe refinery29 or was it metro co uk, it changed my opinion on it. :)
