I guess I'll tell my story. I owe mine for the writer giving me his. This intro is significant to me. I sneaked into a film school screening expecting a cassavetes joint. This movie played instead. This intro glued me to my seat. The images. The music. This is how you create the world of your film effortlessly creating atmosphere and context. Legendary film.

Actually it's not. Replace the United States with France in 1994-1995 during the time of Francois Mitterand as President of France during his final years in office. The Mitterand years between 1981 and 1996 involved the marginalization of French youth.........especially Black and Brown French youth. Oh yeah, he was a socialist and was also responsible for the troubles France has suffered the past 25 years....so there.

dunno what you mean exactly, france has almost a tradition for riots, modern riots started first in 1968, the banlieue riots in the 90s and since 2005 almost every 5 years, movie was and is still a contemporary expression of the intense situation of the french banlieues, they were already some riots before and right in the production if that answers your question, btw the intro riot happened at 6. december 1986

@@lex5544 There were plenty of such scenes in many different times, Louise and you don't talk about the same at all. What Louise tells happened many times, the most famous riots after deadly police violence are the nation-wide riots one month long in whole France's poor urban areas in the winter 2005. What you talk about is the death of the university student Malik Oussekine in December 1986 (Malik was even not part at all of the demonstrations happening in the area that night in the very center of Paris, 15 mn away by foot from Notre-Dame). And I can't tell which riots are the one you see in the video, even if the short demonstration parts look like the students demonstrations of December 1986 (which I personally took part of). But there were regularly student demonstrations since then as well. And like often in France, violence can appear very easily in any demonstrations, beginning from the police - French police is the most violent in Western Europe.
