Best behind-the-scenes video I've ever seen from an opera house! (Some of the ones on Met telecasts make me want to throw something at the screen.) My favorite part: the names on the bottoms of the clogs, and how proud the dancers were to be wearing them.

I don't really understand why, but seeing those names on the clogs shoes brought a tear to my eye.

Love, love, love this perfect ballet. Have the DVD and watch with a big smile. It has everything , the music is enchanting, the costumes gorgeous, and the characters so well drawn. Plus the real cherry on the cake, the fantastic, superb, incredible unmistakable , phenomena that is Steven McRae!.

Stanley Holden was my ballet teacher from when I was 11 to 15 years old. I had seen him do Widow Simone when I was very tiny. The greatest character dancer. The best teacher. The sweetest man! RIP. ❤❤❤

I'm about to lose my cool at the ROH for providing these LOVELY video teasers...but I WANNA SEE THE BALLET! (And I don't live in England). The first La Fille mal gardée clip I saw was with Will Tuckett, as Widow Simone, doing the clog dance, and I have been wasting away to a mere shadow of my former self with longing to see the ballet...oh, look! What's this? A clip of Steven McRae as the Mad Hatter...

*arent.

I have over the years seen many dancers do Lise -Colas -and the Widow Simone My favourites I Must say- all though this is my own opinion Were Collier -Barishnikov-Emblen respectively but there were many other very memorable performances Garry and Alexander Grant as Alain and Leslie Edwards as Thomas Though this in no way detracts from todays exponents of the roles as each dancer brings something of themselves to each role in the ballet which is the Magic of La Fille and I am sure that is what Ashton wanted when he created it around Nerina and Blair and Holden all those years ago

this ballet is superb! Roberta is amazing, but my favourite is marianela nunez♡ but i alla wanna spend some words towards Dame Monica Mason Who decided to not have anymore in the company an amazing artist as Alina cojocaru and decided to bring Natalia Osipova (Who is Good but nothing compare to alina)...I really don't have words because this decision is something that no one will never understand...

numberonefilmfan I think there were meaning English as in the dancing is English - I mean the exact location doesn't matter as ballet dancers don't speak. Also as England and France used to be joined parts of the south coast of England and the north coast of France look very similar - like Dorset and Normandy (bar that Normandy has much more wide open space obvs)

Wow those ballet dancers could sprain an ankle with those clogs. Glad to see elastics on them. I remember when we wore clogs in the 70's and I would try and go on pointe with them. Lol

the big 'problem' with the ballet generally is much of the repertoire, proportionally, hasn't what I consider 'great music'. the music here...I mean...come on... but when you have a great score---ballet is sublime.
