Found these guys this past two days whilst in the hospital looking after my partner and baby who had a touch and go start. Delved into their Spotify, given each album a play through and I'm now over the moon to see that their talent and vibe crosses over to a live format effortlessly. 100% found myself a new top 5 band.
Holy fuck Audiotree. This one sounds so fucking lush. Shouts out to whoever engineered this session.
The dude conducting the interview is the absolute personification of the midwest alternative music scene. He's just so friendly and stoked. His session with Balance & Composure is so wholesome.

I remember the first time I ever saw these guys. It was in this old Opera House with a wooden floor. The band set up in the middle of the floor, and the crowd gathered all around them, literally inches away from the band. They played Somewhere at the Bottom of the River, in its entirety. It got so rowdy at points, you could feel the floor flexing and bouncing under the weight of everyone jumping and dancing, and you could hardly hear the singer because everyone there was screaming along. I've been to a lot of shows, but that was one of the most unforgettable.
@thevidon

Their old concerts were rowdy and fun. One time we were in a small venue and people were literally bouncing off the ceiling while crowd surfing. Now with their slow depressing new albums......no point seeing them live unless you want to take a nap.

Damn... until today that was literally the only album I'd listened to of theirs. I remember reading about how the toured the album, playing it its entirety just like you described and was so sad that I'd missed out. I'm so glad you got to experience that man, what a memory.

@@thevidon God forbid a band grow up, and change. If you were a musician you'd understand how boring it gets just playing the same shit forever, and over and over every time you record a new album or play show. Now THAT will make me want to take a nap, talk about boring stagnation. Them becoming better musicians and songwriters means changing up their style and how they perform. Not to mention they're physically changing as they grow older. That changes the way you play and write music as well.

Yeah The Most Beautiful Bitter Fruit is a lyrical genius at work for sure
Apparently in an interview Jordan said that he was stressed writing the lyrics for Panorama, paraphrasing, he said he wanted them to be polished. I think that one of La Dispute's strengths is the unpolished nature of the lyrics, because it translates feeling in a much more powerful way. Just listen to A Departure, or 27 Times; unless i'm a fool, I don't think that Jordan pondered for days and days writing and re-writing those lyrics. I think he went with his gut. Keep on making fantastic music guys. See you tomorrow night in Toronto.

I think my favorite bit of lyrics from them is in a departure "Maybe you know what I'm talking about, Or maybe you would have known? Or had known? Is it once knew? I don't know what tense to use." I loooooooooove that verse so much: the stream of consciousness, the writing, the figuring out of grammar. The fact that they put all that in a banger of a song too 👏
@MT-hj1nj

strongest verse i have ever heard is from Nine, man these are powerfull lyrics "i remember in a basement sharing sweat with all these stranger boys and girls "we'll change the world" we sang "we'll change the world" but nothing seems to change and they say none of them will listen, but i still see so much more power in that basement than in useless politicians"
@vos1329
2 жыл бұрын
@@MT-hj1nj that was the first song i heard by them, when i was in eighth grade. the part that stuck with me, trying to recall it correctly now, was, “have them lay us in a basement, smash some bottles on the ground, and say we couldn’t tell the difference between the feeling and the sound.”
This will forever be a classic session...and this band will always mean the world to me. Wildlife in particular contains some of the most emotive, powerful and relatable songs I've ever had the pleasure of introducing into my life. I will keep them with me until the end.
Okay, Edward Benz, 27 times gave me chills and made my heart slow down. Their stories are worth listening to. Thanks AudioTree (aka Audiofern) for sharing a great interview and performance.
Bloody hell, I'm closer to 70 than 60, have been listening to some pretty out-there music for 40 years. But la Dispute might be one of the best bands I've stumbled across, Ever. Delivered to me by my 16 year old! Audio-tree has exposed me to some unbelievable music - Respire (another peak existential crisis of a great kind), Vasudeva, Sorry Youth. Too good.
